For pious young Brazilian friends Mariana (Mari Oliveira) and Michele (Lara Tremouroux), days were for rehearsing the pop-song paeans they'd deliver in church. Nights, though, were for leading their friends in a masked vigilante pack-and assaulting women they deemed immoral. When one of those attacks leaves Mariana facially scarred, however, she'll have a wrenching confrontation with her actions, in Anita Rocha da Silveira's statement stunner. 127 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack Portuguese; Subtitles English. In Portuguese with English subtitles.
For conservative tabloid editor Giancarlo Bizanti (Gian Maria Volontè), there wasn't much he wouldn't do to move more copies, or gin up his readership's anger. After a woman's brutal assault and murder, with elections pending, he and his staffers are quick to get involved in the investigation... and to wrongly finger a known student radical as the perpetrator. Marco Bellocchio's charged thriller co-stars Laura Betti, Fabio Garriba, Corrado Solari, John Steiner. 86 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack Italian; Subtitles English; featurettes. In Italian with English subtitles.
Anyone who's ever had a difficult roommate will relate to this outrageous and violent Japanese comedy. Small town girl Nozomi and her glamorous, big city roommate, Lana, share a Tokyo apartment (2 bedroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen, hence the titular abbreviation). They already have their little disagreements, but when it comes to light that they are competing for the same movie role AND the same man, their fights escalate from arguments to all-out power tool battles! Taking place entirely within the confines of the apartment, 2LDK is short, thrilling ride for fans of offbeat cinema.
