About this product
Volume 2 of the RIAS Jorge Bolet recordingsis dedicated to Franz Liszt, whose works helped launch the Cuban-born pianist's career; it was also his Liszt performances that shaped Bolet's later path. JorgeBolet shot to fame with the soundtrack of the Hollywood adaptation of the Liszt biography Song Without End. The RIAS recordings also show Bolet to be a Liszt authority. The piano concertos, conducted by LawrenceFoster and Edo de Waart, are concert recordings the solo pieces were recorded in the studio. The concert paraphrase of the overture to Wagner's Tannhauser, whose challenges are feared by most pianists, was one of Bolet's Inchwar horsesInch few other twentieth century pianists would have come close to the technical and interpretational perfection with which he performed the work. The recording ofthe three Petrarch sonnets from the second volume of Liszt's Annees de Pelerinage reveal Bolet to bea master of beautiful sound production and legato playing. Bolet demonstrates an unerringly clear and perfectly shaped pianism, as well as his understanding of virtuosity it is never employed for it's own sake, but always to illustrate the musical context. In contrast to the recordings in our first boxed set (audite 21.438), all recordings presented here are in stereo. Album Tracks 1. Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major, S. 124 2. Piano Concerto No. 2 in a Major, S. 125 3. Années de Pèlerinage. Deuxième Année Italie 4. Overture to 'Tannhäuser', S. 442

![Brahms / Schirmer,Ragna - Ragna Schirmer - Love in Variations - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/d0557860-5c16-41c2-a07f-2154451fd688.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
A beautifully programmed collection anchored by the strength of Ragna Schirmer's piano. Clara and Robert Schumann borrow from each other's compositions in the early years of their great love affair in two sets of playfully intimate variations. Twenty years later, the theme is woven anew into two more sets of variations a revisiting on the theme by Clara Schumann and one by her friend Johannes Brahms. Performing on an original Blu¨thner grand piano of 1856, Ragna Schirmer's long association with the music of both Clara and Robert deepens the sense of rediscovery of these rarely recorded works for the listener.
