About this product

On this album, the London Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano capture two British masterpieces that continue to astonish and inspire. Journey through the cosmos with Gustav Holst's beloved Planets suite. From the relentless energy of Mars, the Bringer of War to the jubilant optimism of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, the work remains one of the most visionary creations of the 20th century. The voyage concludes in mystery with Neptune, the Mystic, featuring the voices of Tenebrae in a wordless, otherworldly chorus. Arnold Bax's Tintagel closes the album with a sweeping portrait of Cornwall's rugged coastline. Inspired by a visit to the legendary castle in 1917, Bax's symphonic poem evokes windswept cliffs, ancient history and mythology in music that surges like the sea itself. Details 1. Holst The Planets 2. Holst The Planets I. Mars, the Bringer of War 3. Holst The Planets II. Venus, the Bringer of Peace 4. Holst The Planets III. Mercury, the Winged Messenger 5. Holst The Planets IV. Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity 6. Holst The Planets V. Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age 7. Holst The Planets VI. Uranus, the Magician 8. Holst The Planets VII. Neptune, the Mystic 9. Bax Tintagel

London Symphony Orchestra / Pappano,Antonio - Ravel: Daphnis Et Chloe - SUPER-AUDIO CD [Super Audio CD (SACD)]

While living in Paris at the turn of the century, Maurice Ravel was commissioned to write a ballet by the impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes, Serge Diaghilev. The result was music of fluid, delicate beauty - a languid drama of danger and desire. The plot of Daphnis et Chloé is adapted from a second-century Greek erotic pastoral, and tells the captivating story of love and longing between the humble goatherd Daphnis and shepherdess Chloé. When Chloé is abducted by pirates, Daphnis calls upon higher powers to aid his pursuit. These forces of nature are mirrored in the score through Ravel's characteristic rich orchestration and vivid melodies. Interjections from a wordless chorus - sung in this performance by award-winning British ensemble, Tenebrae - perfectly capture the celestial might of the God, Pan, as he comes to the lovers' rescue. Known for it's rich harmonic textures and expansive scoring, Daphnis et Chloé is one of Ravel's largest and most loved orchestral masterpieces. Join the London Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor, Sir Antonio Pappano, on this dreamlike musical journey through Greek mythology, where passion, nature and divinity intertwine. Details 1. Dropkick Murphys - This Machine Still Kills Fascists - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Dropkick Murphys history with Woody Guthrie dates back decades, from covering InchGonna Be A Blackout TonightInch on their 2003 album Blackout, to using some of Guthrie's writing about Boston in their immortal hit InchI'm Shipping Up To BostonInch. But on their latest album, This Machine Still Kills Fascists, Dropkick Murphys have crafted an entire record around the seminal American folk icon, bringing Woody Guthrie's perennial jabs at life-many of which are from the 1940s and '50s-into the present, with the resulting music eerily relevant to today's world. The idea for the collaboration had been percolating between Guthrie's daughter Nora and the band for more than a decade, with Nora curating a collection of her father's never before-published lyrics for the band over the years. The result is one of Dropkick Murphys most unique releases, and the culmination of two like-minded rebellious artists collaborating, albeit nearly a century apart. Album Tracks 1. Two 6's Upside Down 2. Talking Jukebox 3. Ten Times More 4. Never Git Drunk No More 5. All You Fonies 6. The Last One 7. Cadillac, Cadillac 8. Waters Are A'risin 9. Where Trouble Is at 10.
