I did a LOT of research before I completed this purchase. It comes with a hefty price tag so I wanted to get the finest AVR for my system that I could afford. I had been looking at lower end receivers with higher (and lower) power outputs, but then I went to Best Buy to their sound design room (terribly loud of a design room) and listened to my top two choices. This one was noticeably better sounding than the Cinema 50 (my other choice) especially when paired with the Bowers and Wilkins 700 series speakers. It was also noticeably better than its counterpart, the Denon line. This AVR comes with everything I needed including inputs for TV (eARC), cd, iPod, and especially my AR turntable. The output (125w/channel) was plenty big for my smallish living room and it has the capabilities for two more zones as well as a full surround-sound. (We won't be installing the surround-sound b/c it would create too much sound for my wife :-).) The setup/install was complicated but with the on-screen setup guide it turned out easy to complete. The microphone that is provided for calibrating the speakers worked quite well and I can reuse it at any time to re-calibrate if needed. I am pleased that I did the research as well as took the time to listen to several different system pairings - it was quite apparent which had the best sound with which speakers. I would highly recommend this AVR if you have the budget for it.

Hi there. I have been on a long journey. I have had tried many receivers by denon, the x2700h, x3800h, x4700h, and the Cinema 50 by Marantz. The Denon x4700h was ok, out of the Denon’s, but felt clunky and slow, and not like it was a new receiver. It just acted old. And the Denon’s just didn’t sound right turned all the way up. The x4700h was the best for the Denon’s at high volume, the x3800h was terrible. So I went back to the drawing board, decided to change brands, and I moved on to the Marantz Cinema 50. I didn’t know there was a Cinema 40 at the time. I loved the sound that came with the highs with the Cinema 50, but the one problem I was having with the cinema 50 was the bass. It just wasn’t to my tuning. It was lacking. Maybe you could describe it a no deep deep rich bass sound, there was definitely plenty bass, just bass that wasn’t up to par in sound to me. So I went back to the drawing board again and did a lot of studying on the Cinema 40 by Marantz. I found it was better with the separate pcb boards and amplifier, and better parts, but everyone said they would sound the same. At the time you had to order it to store. So finally got it. Hooked it up and could immediately hear the music difference in everything including the bass. They didn’t sound the same at all. I did add 3 Panamax M8 AV PRO power conditioners with high capacity outlets, one for amp and two for two subs and boy the bass jumped even higher. I could t believe how much, and how different the cinema 50 and Cinema 40 with music. I am running a Kef Q750 in front, Kef Q650c in center, 2 pairs of Kef Q150 for surround and rear heights. I have RP500SA Dolby Atmos for front heights, and 2 svs PB1000Pro subs placed in front and back corner of the room. Handles all kinds of music for rap, rock, all the kinds of bass, even computer generated bass, sounds great. Kendrick Lamar’s Swimming Pools sounds great. The Cinema 40 receiver has been my favorite of all out of the denon and Marantz receivers. It is very well built, and not as buggy like with setup with the Marantz Cinema 50. Maybe they have the calibration on the Cinema 50 has improved since update, but had all types of trouble with the setup of the Marantz Cinema 50. The Marantz Cinema 40 sounds better, is made with better parts, and I feel is the one to get, at least for me, over the Cinema 50 if you want true good sound, get the Cinema 40. Absolutely love the Marantz Cinema 40. The bass is even set at -8.5db on the Cinema 40 for both subwoofers, and the Cinema 40 has that certain sound the cinema 50 does not have with the Cinema 50 with both of my subwoofers set to 0db. I haven’t gotten Best Buy to come calibrate the Cinema 40, but did have them come out and calibrate the Cinema 50, and it just didn’t work for me. The Cinema 50 is a good receiver, but no where near the Cinema 40. They knocked it out of the park with the Marantz Cinema 40. The Denon’s don’t even compare to the cinema 40. With the Cinema 50 the bass is better on the Denon’s, but the high’s sound better on the Cinema 50. I love the Hdam SA 2 on the Cinema 40. If you want a inside look there is a training video with Marantz people on the cinema 40 on YouTube is about a 1 hr long. The first half hour is all about the upgrades, then there is just a thing on audyssey, you’ll learn but the good parts are the beginning and end, and there is Q&A at the end that really tell you about the cinema 40 and all of its features. I hope this helps you decide what you might like and for your system. As for me it is Marantz Cinema 40 all the way. It is a total Night and day difference between the Marantz Cinema 40 and the Marantz Cinema 50. It is totally worth the extra $1000, without a doubt. It has been the sound I have been searching for with the Marantz Cinema 40. I feel my journey is done. Even when the Cinema 30 comes out soon, I will stick to this, can’t sound better spouse to compare to the sound of the SR8015. I have all the power I need now, and if I go up to Kef reference series, I can just add a additional amp, and adding a amp is spouse to make the new Marantz Cinema line sound even better. The bass in the in the Cinema 40 though I feel can not be matched with the Cinema 50 at all or even the Denon’s with my setup. Saving up for the new Dirac. Spouse to make it sound like the best of audyssey setup, but 10x better if I understand. Really like my Marantz Cinema 40. Is the best receiver right now out of all of the receivers I have had. The Cinema 40 is better than all of the receivers I heard at Best Buy. I have been using Tidal as a music streaming service through heos. Tried Amazon unlimited, but wasn’t as good. I love my new Marantz Cinema 40. Sounds great.

I had a Marantz 6014 that took a power surge through my line conditioner (15) years old that i was very happy with.Now its junk!! The new cinema 40 was a huge difference in sound quality and interface.i love the changes to the menu system that simplifies the normal day to day setting changes that i do.I just hope the power supply unit inside is better than the old one.

In 2020 I purchased a complete Home Theater from Best Buy, and got a Samsung Neo QLED TV, Bowers and Wilkins 5.1.2 speakers, powered by a Marantz SR7015. The 7015 was a horse for a few years, but the last few years I began having a myriad of issues. Long story short, after 4 years I took it back to Best Buy (protection plan on it) and replaced it with the Cinema 40. OMG after I connected it and ran Audessey on it, I cannot believe how MUCH BETTER the sound separation is in my 5.1.4 setup. Clarity in dialog, power in the bass (that the SR7015 can't match) and distinction from all 9 speakers. Setup was no different from the SR7015 and the remote is top notch. I'm going to get another one for my smaller room upstairs, and I don't want to drop down to the Cinema 50. I HIGHLY recommend this product, it is top notch and for the size of my room, it's perfect.

I have all brands, first time with Marantz. :) man , sound amazing, super smart amp, it tells you everything, like one sub needs more volume and you can do that right there, calibration takes time im glad i did, sound crystal clear, im in love with Marantz

I own two Denon receivers and now I switch to a Marantz receiver. The difference between the two is Marantz has beautiful clarity and Denon has clarity and the bass is loud. I love them both (the best of both worlds)

I purchased this Marantz receiver to power, my bowers and Wilkins speakers , a match made in heaven. The detail and clarity that this piece brought out from my speakers is unmatched, it is not the cheapest, but it certainly is amongst the best that I have heard. Thank you, Best buy for recommending this unit to go along with my bowers and Wilkins speakers

I replaced a Denon 6500h and it amazing how muchthings have changed over last 5 years. Being able to turn off amp chanels im not using is a game changer.

yes I first had the cinema 50. Love the sound, but needed more bass.l now have the cinema 40 Now I have more base better processing. I can see the screen with the flip door.it also have a Lights on each side.it Feed, my Sonus faber 5 tower's sonusfaber center an sonusfaber two's for my Surrounds an two rel supwoofer one in the front one in the rear with emotiva basx 3 than emotiva basx 7 an two elac Hi speakers Watching all my all my ATMOS DTX movies all over again.well Worth it Musically in i love three Piece Quartet, this thing is a Beast. After all this. I live in an apartment.the marantz hate my Neighbors.i going to surprise my marantz with a new home this winter please don't tell .

I purchased the Marantz 40 after returning the SR8015. I'm new to Marantz and all of the reviews for the most part have been positive. The SR series was discounted heavily and after being on the fence I pulled the trigger but soon had some regret. Reason being is that the SR series seemed dated. The Cinama 40 checks all the boxes when it comes to gaming systems and overall sound quality. Also the user interface is very intuitive and holds your hand through a series of different set ups that suits your needs. In addition, this device supports 4 independent subwoofers. Personally speaking this AVR will satisfy most peoples needs and in some ways might be overkill. On paper the SR8015 had more power but in my experience the Cinama 40 was the better choice when it comes to usability. I hate to say anything is future proof as technology is always changing. But I can say this is one of the more up to date and future ready AVR's that are currently out now. Hope this helps someone looking to experience Marantz AVR's for the first time.

Recently jumped back into the money pit searching for wonderful sound. The Marantz Cinema 40 is a nice unit. I have it paired with a couple bi-wired Wharfedale Elysian 2 speakers, a 1.3k Dual turntable with an Ortofon blue cartridge, and a 1.6k Denon SACD player. I'm getting great sound. Problem is, there are so many options on the Marantz that it's easy to be overwhelmed. I have no need for speakers all around the room to feel like I'm in a theater while watching movies. Straight-at-me-left-and-right-sound watching movies is good enough for me. And while I'm getting good sound, I'm still - 2 months later - wondering if I'm getting the best sound this unit has to offer. I've yet to download the app to be able to adjust the highs, lows, and midrange on my phone. And why should I have to? The last thing I want while listening to music is to have to mess around with my phone. Get my drift? Seems there are as many negative as positive reviews online about the app. Considering replacing the Marantz Cinema 40 with a high-end integrated amplifier. Might be a Marantz, might not be. So nothing really bad to say about the Marantz Cinema 40 necessarily. Just saying make sure this is really what you're wanting prior to your purchase. Make sure the Marantz Cinema 40 is where you're trying to get to and what you'd be comfortable with, with your sound system. If outstanding 2-channel vinyl, CD, and shooting music from your computer sound is what you're searching for then you might try looking at other units. Hope this helps with your search.

The sound is amazingly clear at low and high volumes. If you are the type of person that likes to adjust The nuances of each speaker, this is the right AVR. Total control including the ability to manage 4 subs. Love It. I found that the cinema 40’s individual amp and card for each speaker makes a bigger difference than in the Cinema 50. So much so that the additional 15 watts per speaker makes a huge difference. Admittedly, I may upgrade to the Cinema 30 just b/c of the 140/channel feature but honestly at this price point the best bang for the $$$. The Audessy programming is plenty great but the Dirac Live feature is tempting to dabble with; again if you like playing with that. It’s a bit pricey but I hear good things about Dirac Live. What sold me on Marantz is I am a prior owner of the THX model from years ago. The quality, power, and clarity sets the standard. Additionally, the bi-amping feature for stereo sounds is a big selling point for me.

Home theater and gaming with 8-10 speakers is probably great with most middle to high class AVRs so I will not go to the detail there - it does its job, very good, 5 stars. Stereo streaming from Spotify is what I was also looking for with the Marantz Cinema 40 - I did not want to use a sub for that. I have B&Ws and they recommended to find an amplifier that has higher power than the Marantz C40 so I thought to give it a try and bought one as well, an Emotiva. With the MC40 standalone powering the B&Ws the music was awesome and detailed, I loved it, I thought this is awesome, way better than my previous Harman Kardon (which is not any more in the market unfortunately for AVRs). Then I plugged in the Emotiva Amp using the MC40 as a stereo pre-out and letting the Amp do the final power. Oh. Boy. The music 'got alive', the singer suddenly appeared in the room even at modest volumes and started to sing for those out there. The music stage appeared wide and deep. The base - without a sub - was so deep that I felt it in my chest, the highs jingle, tinkle, tickle. It was obvious: the MC40 alone cannot power B&W to its absolute full potential I will have to keep the Amp as well. Having the MC40 as a pre-out though is a bit pricy, so I tried to use a lower price AVR as pre-out with the Emotiva. To my surprise, no other AVRs, or a Wiim Ultra streamer could reproduce the amazing 'live' feeling that these two produced together. Audyssey for my ears is great for silent background music, the Graphic EQ produced better results for dedicated music listening. Some flaws: I couldn't find a way to have default volumes per input, a bit too low for TV or too high for Music. The MC40 loses the wifi from time to time, it does not turn on automatically with my TV plus their App remote is the slowest app on my phone. All this is secondary though. The MC40 standalone is probably 3-4 stars, but with the pre-Amp for Stereo music is 10 out of 5 stars, nothing came close. I didn't understand how 'listening o music' can be a hobby, now I do. If uncompromised stereo sound matters and also need an AVR for home theater, then the MC40 is what you really need (with a decent amp).

Going into the store and actually listening to this incredible A/V Receiver sold me on the unit. It has magnificent sound quality and all the power I needed for my home theater system. This unit and all my speakers were upgraded with the help of Zac at the store. He was truly knowledgeable and I love my new Marantz Cinema 40.

I have a slight hearing impairment; but, this Marantz is just what the doctor ordered. I use KEF speakers with this. At first, I would not even consider a Marantz when I was replacing my receiver owing to past technical issues with the brand. But, this unit is outstanding. Crystal clear transmission and very low distortion - imperceptibly low. Handles 4K source with no problem. My only negative would be the very play-station like tactile nature of the remote and its small size. To increase volume press the rectangular button forward; but, to mute you press it down. Until you get used to the sensation, it can be tricky. Other than that, this is a world-class, top 10 receiver that was even rated higher than the next level Marantz which was almost twice this one's price! This is a well-built, quality, receiver that will last more than a couple of years.

Fuller sound really good acoustically, not as detailed on the amp side as the Musical Fedility amp M6s Prx
