About this product

Two countertenors for Pergolesi's Stabat Mater this is the resurrection of the first performance in France of this work, introduced by two Italian Castratos from the Royal Chapel of Louis XV, who were enthusiastic propagators of it both at Court and at the Concert Spirituel. Paris was conquered and saw in it the revolutionary mark of a Neapolitan genius, who alas passed away so young. Pergolesi, shortly before his death at the age of 26 and affected by illness, expressed the Virgin's suffering with the language of passion more typical of opera. The Stabat Mater, first performed in 1736, is one of the emblematic works of the baroque and had a profound effect on the musical world of the 18th century. To give full splendor to the sumptuous duet of angelic voices lamenting the pain of Mary at the foot of the Cross, two performers are required who blend their timbres, like the two Neapolitan castratos for whom this music was composed. The brilliant sopranist Samuel Marino and the no less brilliant counter tenor Filippo Mineccia form the exceptional duo for this programme of emotion and virtuosity. Album Tracks 1. Stabat Mater~Stabat mater dolorosa 2. Stabat Mater~Cuius animam gementem 3. Stabat Mater~O quam tristis 4. Stabat Mater~Quae maerebat et dolebat 5. Stabat Mater~Quis est homo 6. Stabat Mater~Vidit suum dulcem natum 7. Stabat Mater~Eia, mater, fons amoris 8. Stabat Mater~Fac ut ardeat cor meum 9. Stabat Mater~Sancta mater, istud agas 10. Stabat Mater~Fac, ut portem Christi mortem 11. Stabat Mater~Inflammatus et accensus 12. Stabat Mater~Quando corpus morietur 13. Beethoven / Sinfonia Grange Au Lac / Salonen - Symphony 3 / Metamorphosen - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This live recording of Strauss's Metamorphosen and Beethoven's Eroica Symphony marks the birth on record of the 'Sinfonia Grange au Lac', an orchestra created in July 2018 on the occasion of the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian, the prestigious festival created by Mstislav Rostropovich in 1985 and revived since 2014. A musical ambassador intended to promote the excellence of it's parent festival worldwide, the Sinfonia Grange au Lac consists of musicians from leading European orchestras (in Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Leipzig, London, Lucerne, Munich, Paris, Salzburg, Valencia and Vienna) as well as existing groups such as the Trio Karénine and the Quatuor Ébène. And it was a stroke of genius to manage to secure the services of Esa-Pekka Salonen. The brilliant Finn became a passionate supporter of the project, checking the list of members one by one. He told Diapason magazine 'Our work together made me understand what guided Claudio Abbado when he created the Lucerne Festival Orchestra the pleasure of working with handpicked musicians and making music with great freshness.'
