Kolner Akademie Willens - Christmas Cantatas 3 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Telemann World-Premiere Recordings. Between 1717 and 1765 Georg Philipp Telemann composed more than 1, 700 cantatas for performance on all the Sundays of the church year. Some dozen annual cycles from his period as music director in Frankfurt am Main and above all those from his Hamburg years have come down to us. In quantitative terms, the four Sundays of Advent and the three days of Christmas are the most strongly represented - with almost about two hundred cantatas. Apart from the cantatas for solo voice and solo instrument with basso continuo from his anthology Harmonischer Gottesdienst of 1725, only a few compositions for larger ensembles from this treasure trove have been edited and recorded. This album features four cantatas by Telemann that may be regarded as world-premiere recordings. They are musical gems that impress us with their melodic originality and musical character and even after more than 250 years are very much worth being performed again! Album Tracks 1. Was für ein jauchzendes Gedränge. Kantate zum 1. Advent TVWV 1 1509~1. Aria Was für ein jauchzendes Gedränge 2. Was für ein jauchzendes Gedränge. Kantate zum 1. Advent TVWV 1 1509~2. Braunfels - Sinfonia Concertante 68 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Walter Braunfels studied law and economics at the university of Munich until, after seeing a performance of Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, he decided to shift his focus to music. He went on to study with Theodor Leschetizky in Vienna before returning to Munich to study composition with Felix Mottl and Ludwig Thuille. His earliest success came with the opera Die Vogel. With the rise of the Nazis to power, however, he was dismissed from his positions and listed as being half-Jewish. Luckily, the war passed peacefully for his family, he returned to the public eye after the war was over. On this , the Munchner Rundfunkorchester with violinist Henry Raudales, violist Norbert Merkl, and hornists Karl Reitmayer and Marc Ostertag present Braunfel's String Quintet in F sharp minor in it's version for String Orchestra, and his Sinfonia Concertante op. 68 for violin, viola, 2 horns, and string orchestra. These are world premiere recordings. Album Tracks 1. String Quintet Op. 63A in F Sharp minor (Version for String Orchestra) 2. Sinfonia Concertante Op. 68 for Violin, Viola, 2 Horns & String Orchestra
