About this product

Moritz Moszkowski enjoyed a considerable international reputation as a composer and pianist and was fêted as the natural successor to Chopin. It is a mark of his music's success that it was arranged for countless ensembles and solo instruments. French violinist Émile Sauret transformed the popular Spanish Dances into virtuoso showpieces filled with all manner of impressive elaborations, Jascha Heifetz similarly turning Etincelles or 'Sparks' into something brilliantly light and twinkling. The interaction of two violins makes the Suite highly dramatic, contrasting with the fine lyrical melody of Moszkowski's Serenata. Album Tracks 1. No. 1. Allegro Brioso 2. No. 2. Moderato 3. No. 3. Con Moto 4. No. 4. Allegro Comodo 5. No. 5. Bolero Con Spirito 6. No. 1. Les Nymphes Allegro Leggiero 7. No. 2. Caprice Allegretto 8. No. 3. Mélodie Moderato 9. No. 4. Humoresque Allegro Con Spirito 10. Ballade Andante Con Moto 11. Bolera Allegro Spirituoso 12. I. Allegro Energico 13. II. Allegro Moderato 14. III. Lento Assai 15. IV. Molto Vivace 16. Allegro Scherzando 17. Allegro Comodo 18. Andante Grazioso

All six of these orchestral works exemplify Busoni's personalized classicism. The Lustspielouverture (Comedy Overture) is light, and almost Mozartian in clarity, whilst Gesang vom Reigen der Geister (Song of the Spirit Dance) is a delicately scored chamber piece, forward-looking in both style and content. Both the Concertino for Clarinet and the Flute Divertimento reveal Busoni's affinity for solo instruments; the former is deftly organized and the latter more obviously capricious. The spirit of Johann Strauss II haunts the infectious Tanzwalzer and the Rondo arlecchinesco unleashes Busoni's broadsides of wit. In 2002 Francesco La Vecchia was appointed Artistic Director and Resident Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma. Under his leadership the orchestra has rapidly achieved success in Europe and in highly successful tours to St Petersburg, Madrid, Belgrade, Brussels, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, London, Athens, Berlin, Beijing and Shanghai. Album Tracks 1. Lustspielouverture, Op. 38 2. Gesang Vom Reigen Der Geister, Op. 47, 'Elegie No. 4' 3. Rondo Arlecchinesco, Op. 46, 'Elegie No. 3' - Gianluca Terranova/Orchestra Sinfonica Di Roma 4. Clarinet Concertino, Op. 48 - Giammarco Casani/Orchestra Sinfonica Di Roma 5. Divertimento, Op. 52 - Laura Minguzzi/Orchestra Sinfonica Di Roma 6. Tanzwalzer, Op. 53
