About this product
Mastered from Mercury Living Presence LPs. Mercury is all about the placement of the microphones. Paul Paray, the conductor who made the Detroit Symphony one of the finest French orchestras on the planet. (Gramophone). InchSuppé and Auber prove an ideal spirit-raiser. The Beautiful Galatea balances handsome playing with real swagger, and Poet & Peasant is intense and beautifully shaped. There are nine overtures, each parading similar virtues - brilliance, energy, a consistent rhythm and line, (and) felicitous phrasing... Berlioz (is) the best music, and here the virtuosity of Paray's orchestra really comes into it's own. I do not ever remember having heard the climax of Le Carnaval Romain whipped up more excitingly.Inch (Gramophone). Album Tracks 1. Suppé; Die Schone Galathée/ Beautiful Galatea 2. Suppé; Pique Dame 3. Leichte Kavallerie/Light Cavalry 4. Suppé; Dichter Und Bauer/Poet and Peasant 5. Suppé; Ein Morgen, Ein Mittag, Ein Abend in Wien/Morning, Noon & Night in Vienna 6. Suppé; Boccaccio 7. Auber; the Bronze Horse 8. Auber; Fra Diavolo 9. Hérold; Zampa 10. Berlioz; Le Carnaval Romain
