About this product
Drawing inspiration from disparate musical and poetic sources, two British Mercury Prize nominees have come together in a playful departure from their respective work with Field Music and Maximo Park. Based around text from Paul Smith's travel writing, and Peter Brewis's chamber-band arrangements, the pair have collaborated on a suite of songs, creating a restrained yet richly descriptive sound-world. The music wraps itself around the words and the places they chronicle. The locations become tangible; from their home towns in north-eastern England to more far-flung destinations. Characters appear, such as the diminutive L.A. Street Cleaner going about his work in the song of the same title, or the romantic old couple Inchdigging their forefingers in freshly-soaked sandInch in 'Santa Monica'. 'Frozen By Sight', then, is a rare piece of music that quietly announces the arrival of a potent new collaboration. Album Tracks 1. Old Odeon 2. Santa Monica 3. Exiting Hyde Park Towers 4. Barcelona (At Eye Level) 5. L.A. Street Cleaner 6. A Town Called Letter 7. Mount Wellington Rises 8. Budapest 9. Perth to Bunbury 10. Philly 11. Trevone 12. St. Peter's

On September 12th, Robin Kester will her new album, 'Dark Sky Reserve', via new tag home Memphis Industries. Rotterdam-based Robin Kester's music thrives in moments of quiet unease. Following her 2020 Inchmini albumInch 'This Is Not A Democracy', Kester was lauded for her stirring blend of chamber pop and psychedelia for her debut album 'Honeycomb Shades' (2023) which was named Dutch album of the year by newspapers NRC and de Volkskrant and nominated for the best Dutch album by 3voor12.Now, Kester returns with second album 'Dark Sky Reserve' via Memphis Industries; a soundtrack to all the thoughts that bubble to the surface once the silence sinks in. 'Dark Sky Reserve' is Kester's most artistically focused record to date, combining a rich, layered humanity in the music with minimalist lyricism. With the help of producer Ali Chant and a variety of other collaborators including Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Rozi Plain, Kester balances scenes of idyllic bliss from the Inchmagical and strangeInch 'Talybont-on-Usk' with existential questions on 'Departure'. Written in the nights of recording sessions in Bristol, 'Dark Sky Reserve' is the result of Kester writing from a place of newfound clarity InchI could see myself for who I am.InchAvailable in indie exclusive Opaque Blue Vinyl, standard black and CD, 'Dark Sky Reserve' sees Robin continue to grow and evolve as an artist, reaching blissful new heights in the process of doing so.
