Two factors attracted me to this RIG R8 Pro Headset. One being that it has a charging base. And the other is that it utilizes the 3D audio feature that the PS5 has. Set Up: Setting up this headset doesn’t require a tedious checklist. My R8 was basically ready to go out of the box. I say basically because there is an update needed upon connecting the headset to the RIGR app. Can you use this headset without the app or updating? Sure, but you’re going to miss out on the customization features if you do. I really liked the fact that I can update the headset through the app rather than being required to download a desktop app and then needing to connect the headset to my PC. The fewer steps, the better. Setting up the charging base was easy, too. Whereas other headsets have a dongle that takes up a USB slot on your PS5, while also requiring you to use another USB slot for the charging cable. Gamer problems, right? It’s nice to have both the charging and the dongle connector in one spot. The dongle fits nicely into the charging base, leaving you a free USB slot. Once you’ve updated the headset, you are now free to customize the type of audio EQ that you may desire. There are already some preset options, but you are also allowed to create your own audio experience. Performance: For me, it feels like the R8 Pro takes advantage of the PS5 3D audio. Audio is an important part of the gaming immersion. The two games that I have been playing the most with this headset are Crimson Desert and Pragmata. Hearing natural sounds and random NPC conversations that seem like they are right next to you really helps you slide into the moment. While with Pragmata, the high-energy gunfire, accompanied by sharp electronic hacking sounds, adds to the heart-racing moments. I also enjoy the flip to mute microphone instead of pressing a mute button that I cannot see or accidentally rolling the volume wheel. The microphone is decent and doesn’t lessen my voice when I am streaming or talking to a friend in chat. Comfort: You cannot enjoy good audio without comfort. Fortunately, the R8 headset has incredibly soft ear cups that don’t suffocate your ears during long gaming sessions. And the headband doesn’t pinch your head either. Customize: The charging base has a quant RGB effect built into it. You can choose what color or style you want it to display. There’s also the option to replace the ear cup covers (available via their website). Nacon has been really delivering with their recent controllers and now the RIG R8 Pro Headset.

So I have to be honest here. I was not expecting much from the RIG R8 Spectre Pro HS. Like, at all. I've been burned before, more times than I care to admit. I've gone through those sad little headsets you find in a bargain bin at a drugstore, the ones where the "leather" peels off after three weeks and the sound is basically just a suggestion of noise. And I've also done the opposite. I've dropped $300 on "pro" headsets that felt like they were designed by someone who hates human skulls. You put them on and within an hour it's like your head is caught in a very expensive, very plastic vice. So my expectations for this one? Somewhere in the middle, leaning toward disappointment. But no. After a few weeks of using this thing on my PS5, I am genuinely, almost annoyingly impressed. It actually made some of my old games feel new again, which is a weird thing to say about a headset but here we are. Let's talk about the sound first, because that's the whole point, right? They put these 50mm graphene coated drivers inside, which sounds like marketing nonsense until you actually hear them. And you can really tell the difference when things go off the rails on screen. You know how in most headsets, when an explosion happens and the music swells and someone is yelling, it all just turns into this muddy soup of noise? Like you're listening to a battle through a wet blanket? Yeah, not here. The sound is sharp. Unreasonably sharp. I'm hearing things in games I have played for literal years that I somehow never noticed before. Little details like the wind whistling through specific trees, or the tiny difference between footsteps on metal versus wood versus wet concrete. It's almost annoying because now I can't unhear it. And when you pair that with the PS5's 3D audio, it gets a little spooky. The positional accuracy is so good that I can tell exactly where someone is coming from before they even show up on the map. That is a massive deal if you play anything competitive, or if you just enjoy not getting shot in the back like a fool. Now, battery life. I have trust issues with battery life claims. Companies always say stuff like "up to 60 hours" and then in real life you get maybe 15 if you're lucky and you don't breathe on it wrong. But this time? They say 60 hours on the 2.4GHz wireless connection, and in my experience, that is pretty much spot on. I can game every night for a full week and not even think about charging it. I forget it even has a battery. And when I do finally need to charge it, the base station actually earns its spot on my desk instead of just being a useless piece of plastic that collects dust. You just drop the headset onto the magnetic dock and it clicks into place like it's happy to see you. It's so much better than fumbling around for a tiny USB C cable in the dark when you're half asleep and irritated. The dual wireless feature is something I did not think I would care about at all. Bluetooth 5.2 and 2.4GHz running at the same time? I figured it was one of those unnecessary bells and whistles that sounds cool in a press release but nobody actually uses. But nope. It's a game changer. I can stay connected to my phone for Discord or even take a quick call without having to take the headset off or pause my game. It just works quietly in the background like a polite coworker instead of a screaming toddler. Seamless. I hate using that word but it fits here. Comfort is usually where I give up and start shopping around again because I wear glasses. Most headsets start to pinch after about 45 minutes, right behind the ears, and then I spend the rest of the night readjusting and grumbling. But these are surprisingly light for how much tech is crammed inside. They weigh around 315 grams, which is nothing, and they have these memory foam ear cushions that actually breathe instead of trapping heat like a space heater for your ears. I've done some pretty long sessions recently, the kind where you look at the clock and realize three hours have vanished into a black hole, and I haven't dealt with that annoying ear heat or pressure at all. I kind of forget I'm wearing the headset after twenty minutes, which is really the highest compliment you can give a headset. Even the little stuff is well thought out, and I'm a sucker for good little stuff. The RIG Navigator app is actually easy to use if you want to mess with your EQ settings or change how your mic sounds. No weird menus, no frustration. And the mic itself has a simple flip to mute design. You just flip it up and you're muted. No searching for a tiny button while you are in the middle of a heated match and someone is yelling at you. Just flip and done. It's the little victories. So here is the bottom line. If you are looking for a new headset and you want something that is best in class without spending a small fortune, I cannot recommend the RIG R8 Spectre Pro HS enough. It is about $180, and I honestly think it performs better than headsets I have owned that cost a hundred dollars more. It completely changed how I enjoy my PS5, and I think anyone who tries it will have a hard time going back to anything else. Total home run. Go buy it and then come back and thank me later. These do NOT disappoint!

I am writing this review for the Nacon PlayStation RIG R8 SPECTRE Dual Wireless Gaming Headset and Base Station. First, I am super impressed that Nacon actually partnered with Sony to produce the RIG R8 Pro HS headphones. When I saw the PlayStation logo on the rear caps, I felt a lot more at ease knowing these headphones would actually pair and work with my PS5 Pro console. And it did, flawlessly and very easily. Second, out of the box the kit comes with the headphones themselves (with attached non-removable mike), USB-C wireless Bluetooth transmitter, charging station, USB cord, of course the snap-lock PlayStation mod plates, and all the usual literature, including a quick-start guide. There is a QR code to scan that will also help with the setup. Setup was actually quite easy, so there are no real concerns there. The headphones, this is where the rubber meets the road. The R8 Pro’s come equipped with graphene drivers. Without getting in teacher mode, the function of any driver is to move back and forth fast, accurately, and without wobbling, wobbling being distortion. Just to clarify, these are graphene-coated drivers, not pure graphene drivers. But being able to deliver 20Hz – 40kHz frequency response is impressive, but with a few caveats. Where other 20-40kHz headphones can sound rich, full, musical, spacious and detailed, the R8’s are tactical and very clear. Bass is controlled, not super deep or booming (the 20Hz range). The highs are boosted (in the > +/- 12-15kHz range), which allows for a clear AND directional hearing of footsteps, distant gunfire, etc.). This is the R8’s strong point, and why they are so “tactical.” You don’t have to wait until you are getting shot at to know someone has walked up on you. The fit was a little sketchy for me at first. When I put them on, they felt almost tight, too tight. But the memory foam ear cups soon “kicked in” and had loosened up enough to be quite comfortable.. Don’t get me wrong, they are snug, but even after 6 hours, they had not become uncomfortable. The earcups are breathable, and don’t seem to build up any heat at all. I like the fact that they are easily removable in case you need to replace them or whatever. One thing I like about the design of these particular headphones is the removable outer earcups. In fact, the PlayStation earcups that came with the R8’s are replacement cups for the factory stock cups, and they are sharp. The microphone is not removable. To me that isn’t a big deal at all, especially since I have a tendency to lay things down and forget where I put them, so if I took off the microphone, there is no telling where it would end up until I found it months later! One thing I would have liked to see was the ability to locate the mike on either side of the headphones, but unless Nacon makes the R8’s for right or left and I don’t know it, you just have to deal with the microphone being on the right. Controls are located on the right as well. There is a bit of adjustment needed if you are already used to the location and functions of the controls on your current headset, but there is quite the minimalist design to the R8’s, so the controls are actually quite few and simple to learn… Power, Volume, Bluetooth Pairing, and the Game/Chat “switch” (immediately above the Volume wheel). The Game/Chat switch is a tricky little devil. In theory, it alternates between being able to hear the game more, or being able to hear chat better. But depending on how you actually have it setup, there are times when it doesn’t appear to do anything at all. The one downfall of the included quick start guide is that it doesn’t really cover this button at all… I had to do some searching on the web before I figured it out. But what about the sound? That’s the real question with the R8’s. As I alluded to earlier, the SPECTRE R8’s have a frequency range from 20Hz to 40kHz. Nacon states the R8’s are designed for FPS. So, they are tuned to be more tight and controlled instead of booming with bass. Why? Deep bass will smother the sounds of approaching footsteps and other sounds. The bass is still acceptable, and I am glad Nacon decided to tune them this way. When I say you can hear approaching footsteps, AND you can tell from which direction, I am being completely honest. They rule in this particular arena. And Nacon knew exactly what they were doing. Across the board, the R8’s offer up good to superior sound, depending on the circumstances. And again, these are FPS-dedicated headphones, and that is important to keep in mind. Bottom line, an audiophile would not buy these, but a serious gamer will. Bottom line on the sound is, yes, it is good, and on some levels very good. I truly appreciate the graphene drivers for their ability to deliver unbending audio, and to do so without distortion of any kind. For gaming, you want these in your arsenal. For music? Look elsewhere. As a footnote, the microphone seems to work very well. I’ve asked several people online how I sound, and they all say my voice is clear and easy to understand. The SPECTRE R8’s come with a charging base. In my way of thinking, although it is convenient as a place to put your phones when not wearing them, it’s just one more thing you have to deal with in what is, at least in my house, an already crowded environment of computers, consoles, headphones, VR headsets, etc. I put the charging base on the floor in front of the TV. I almost always just plug a charging cable directly into whatever needs charging. So what is my honest assessment of the Nacon PlayStation RIG R8 SPECTRE Dual Wireless Gaming Headphones? They are absolutely a worthy investment. They sound better (for gaming) than my other gaming headsets. They are comfortable (very), fit well, and don’t leave your ear sweating. And what about the battery life?? OMG, the R8 is rated at 60 hours!! SIXTY hours! I feel like I have been playing non-stop since I got the SPECTRE R8’s, and the battery life is still great! Yes, get these! You will seriously be glad you did.

These wireless headphones check all the boxes for me. They say “built different” on the packaging. I don’t really have a benchmark to judge that statement, as this is my first PS5 headset I’ve owned for my PS5. I can tell you that these things are great for my first pair! The base is heavy and sturdy with large rubber feet. The power cord routes under the base and plugs in on one of the sides. Love the fact that they give you 3 options on the bottom, of how to route the cord from the base out to the wall plug or power strip. (photo) This gives you 3 different options how to route the cord. There are carve outs in the plastic so the base lays flat and sits firm on whatever surface you have it on. Basically, you can orientate the direction the headphones sit on the base, that works best for your setup. I like the design of the base. The only issue imo, is that the cord should be a foot or two longer than it is. If you need a long cord, you should be able to just use a longer USB-C to USB-A ,as this is what it comes with. You plug the USB-C end into the base, then the USB-A into the PS5. The base comes with the obligatory RGB lights, with effects that you can change by pressing a button on the base. Now let’s talk about the headphones. They connect and charge to the base on the bottom of the L side. There is a magnetic charging connection (photo). This makes it easy to know which side goes where. There is a strong magnetic connection. They have nice padding under the top, and for your ears. It’s cooling and doesn’t make you sweat around your ears. The true test was could you wear them for a considerable amount of time without pressure or mentioned above, make you sweaty. I played for numerous hours without any strain on my head. The 1 true complaint I have about these headphones is they do not quite fit my head. If they extended even ½” more they would have. If you have a really big cranium, you might want to look elsewhere. The sides have magnetic+snap-lock mod-plates. Underneath the left side mod-plate, is the replaceable battery pack (photo). I researched online and found them on the manufacturers (Nacon) website for around $20. That is an AMAZING feature to me. These headphones can last for YEARS due to that feature! They claim roughly 60 hours on a charge. If you’re travelling with them and don’t want to take the base, no problem there is a USB-C charging port on the bottom of the right side, another AMAZING feature if you ask me. Another feature on the right side is the bendable flip-to-mute mic. Works great in my opinion, no issues there. Above the mic is the power button. You use that for the obvious reason and also for dongle pairing. Above the power button is the volume wheel. Above the volume wheel is the audio controls/ mic.mute button. This button is how you perform the phone functions, when your phone is connected. When my phone was connected and I was playing a game, a call came in and it quickly connected to my phone and I could take the call easily. That was impressive, no bugs at all! You’ll have to download the RIG app to get started just like with everything in this world. This is beneficial though as there are nice features there. Had some initial connectivity hiccups and the app froze on me a couple times, but it seems to have corrected itself now. There is a USB-C wireless adapter (dongle) that cradles in either the base station, or connects directly to the PS5. You can add up to four dongles for connecting to multiple consoles. There is a manual switch on the dongle, to be able to use on a PC as well. These are absolutely amazing, and I couldn’t really ask for more! After my experience with these, I’m afraid that Nacon gained a lifetime customer here. I will look right to them for my next set, if anything happens to these. Highly recommend!!

RIG makes several of my favorite headsets I’ve owned over the years due largely to how light and comfortable they are combined with great sound quality. The RIG R8 Pro HS continues most of what I have loved about past examples but makes a few changes I’m not completely sure about. First off, it is a comfortable headset as usual for the most part, but their new headband which trades the interior loose strap inside a large band for a solid padded band is not a good change in my opinion. It makes the headset smaller which means fitment for large heads such as mine is no longer ideal. It’s still better than several other options I’ve had but not nearly as good as the older RIG’s were. They do however have very good earcups that feel great even over my glasses. The flip to mute boom mic, and mode select, volume, and power controls are all on the back of the right side which keeps everything together but also makes the one side busy compared to the other. The headset drops into the included charging stand, which also houses the wireless dongle which can be used with or without the stand. As a result of that design the stand can be used independently of the dongle which allows it to be plugged in for charging without having to keep the USB ports on your PS5 powered all the time if you choose to set it up that way. The sound quality with 3D audio is excellent, and battery life is more than adequate for longer gaming sessions. I experience some discomfort from the new head band after a couple hours which is a real issue for me. I think that overall, this is a good effort from Nacon, but it isn’t quite perfect.

RIG gaming headsets were first manufactured pre-2010 by Plantronics under the "GameCom" and "Audio" names. Plantronics released the first RIG headsets in the early 2010s. They were snapped up by competitive gamers who appreciated their lightweight, premium quality design. Nacon acquired the RIG brand from Plantronics in 2020 & upgraded their wireless technology. RIG just introduced the R8 SPECTRE PRO HX Dual Wireless Gaming Headset with Graphene Drivers and Base Station for PlayStation. This is an ultra lightweight headset that is super comfortable and is designed for extended gaming sessions without fatigue. R8 Spectre Pro sounds fabulous with deep bass & crystal clear highs! I find myself inviting friends to hop on the PS5 more frequently than ever before because of its comfort & sound clarity. The base Station features RGB on 2 sides & cable routing in the base. Simply place the headset on the base & it begins charging instantly. After unboxing, the first step is to download the RIG R-Pro Navigator app. Follow the instructions to update your headset. Next, click on "Customizations" to fine tune "Microphone Gain & Monitoring", "Equalization", "Headset Start Mode", "Voice Prompts and Tone", and "Game/Chat Balance". CONCLUSION: Gaming with PS5 has never been so enjoyable until R8 Spectre Pro changed everything! This amazing headset earns my highest recommendation!

I try to do a little research before a product arrives to learn some of the features but in this case, the R8 is so new it’s not even on the manufacturer’s website as I’m typing this. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the R8 is that the ear cushions are incredibly plush! They are thick memory foam and are able to make a good seal even around my glasses so that’s a huge plus. The ear cushions also use RIG’s SNAP+LOCK technology which uses four small but strong magnets so they can be easily removed to swap on other cushions that you purchase separately but they stay firmly in place during use. The outside of the cans have MOD-PLATES which also use SNAP+ LOCK so they can be swapped out. There is a QR code in the box which took me to what was supposed to be .stl files to print your own MOD-PLATES but unfortunately it directed me to a file for the R5 headphone MOD-PLATES which are different. I assume that’s because the R8’s are so new and that will be corrected shortly. The headphones include a charge dock that includes a usb-A to usb-C cable. I have the dock plugged into a usb-A hub and it works fine. The dock also has a usb-C port on top where you can plug in the included dongle which saves the usb-C port on the PS5 in case you’re already using that for something else. The dongle has a switch to select whether you’re connecting to a Playstation or a PC. The dock has some cool RGB effect bars on it. You can vary the brightness and the pattern by using either a long press (3s) or a tap. They are very thin bars and not distracting at all. The dock is handy to keep the headset tidy while charging instead of just laying on a shelf plugged into a cable. Placing the headset on the charger disconnects it from the Playstation. The headset also has a usb-C port on it, the manual specifies not to plug the device into a power supply exceeding 15w. Maybe on the next version they will change the dock to have SNAP+LOCK side plates so those can be changed to match my console colors? The all black dock doesn’t match my black and white controller chargers and console. The battery is 1100mAh, life is stated to be 60 hours. The battery is housed under the left MOD-PLATE and is removable so it can be replaced if needed. The microphone on this headset is on the right side ear cup and is the flip to mute style which I prefer. I used it in game and for phone calls and I was told it is very clear. The boom is bendable to set it the correct distance from your mouth. It is spec’d as being uni-directional and noise canceling. In my use, I thought I had the noise canceling turned off because callers could hear every little noise in the room and beyond. My neighbor was using a string trimmer and a caller could hear it running even though I was indoors with our windows closed. I honestly don’t see a setting in the app or a button on the device to turn the noise canceling on or off so I have to assume it’s on all the time and if that’s the case I don’t think the noise canceling works very well. If I missed something I’d like to know please! I did have the mic gain turned fully down and it mitigated some background noise but it’s still not as good as other noise canceling headsets I have used. The headset is very comfortable for long wear, only thing I would ask is that the ear cups need a little more length in adjustment. I wear a 2xl hat and with the ear cups pulled fully down they just barely fit over my ears with the pad on the headband fully compressed. I’d like a little more length to take some compression off the band pad. A quarter inch extra travel would make it perfect. The audio quality is excellent and the app has an eq so you can adjust it to your preference. The 3D audio is such a game changer especially in FPS games where you can hear your opponent’s footsteps as they sneak up behind you. I don’t typically use headphones for listening to music on my phone since I prefer earbuds for that but I did try these and they sound great! I use the headset in dual mode, BT to my phone and 2.4 GHz to the charge dock so I can make adjustments in the app or take a call while playing a game.

I have a pair of the official Sony INZONE headphones for my PS5 and they have always been just terrible as far as the connection is concerned. They just sound terrible with a lot of chopping and artifacting from interference. I was incredibly happy to find that this RIG set, in the exact same environment, sounds great without any noticeable interference. Setup was simple as usual for USB headphones. Just plug in the base to your PC and PS5 and then plug in the dongle into the base. The dongle has an 90 degree angled USB-C plug and a nice LED strip along the top so it looks really nice on the base. Turning on the headphones will find the USB connection and you're ready to go. You can also download the RIG companion app for your phone and connect to your phone via bluetooth which will help you update the firmware and adjust some settings like EQ and and mode. I'm not a crazy audiophile so I wouldn't be able to tell you the exact resonance of every frequency or anything but I did think this just sounded like a good pair of headphones. The volume was good with decent bass. I don't know how else to describe it. It just sounded good and was night and day better than my old INZONE9 set with no real interference. One thing I wasn't crazy about is that the headphones promote a "dual mode" which is supposed to be your phone and game at the same time. But it doesn't support these things simultaneously. It basically just allows you to take a phone call (who takes phone calls anymore?) which interrupts your game audio. It would have been so much nicer if playing bluetooth audio would just lower the volume on your game audio a little bit so you could listen to both at the same time. I would still recommend these headphones. The connection quality (especially considering what I've witnessed with an official Sony pair) is fantastic even with a lot of interference around it. The audio sounds great and I've been excited to be able to sit and relax on the couch and play some PS5 games without worrying about waking up the kids. If you have issues with a lot of interference, maybe give these a try and see if they work better for you.

I have always been impressed with the RIG headsets so was excited to try out this one for my playstation 5. Right away I was very impressed with the care they took on the boxing and packaging of the product. I was also impressed with the level of quality the headset feels when using it. It rests on the ears very comfortably and the mic picks up my voice perfectly. The battery life was very impressive along with the distance I was able to walk away from my Playstation 5 (When I was using the dongle). I have not tested the distance with the bluetooth so unsure of the actual distance when using t hat mode. Speaking of modes, it is very nice that it can change between bluetook and dongle. It works great when you want to pair with different devices. I was very impressed with the sound quality and volume through the headset. The sound came in perfectly to allow me to game very well with shooter games or jump scares. Also the depth of the music / sounds were very impressive and I truly felt immersed. The battery lenght was extremely long playing over 15 hours without ever needing a charge. Speaking of charge, it charges very quick, I would only have it in the docking station for a short amount of time and it is already recharged fully. Overall I recommend this headset for anyone who is wanting a good quality headset with great battery life and wonderful sound / mic quality.

First off, the headset doesn’t extend enough to fit my head. I’ve had other headsets that I’ve had to max out to fit, but they at least still fit. The bottom of the earcups on this headset were still pressing on my ears. Nothing I could do about that to get a comfortable/normal fit. The max volume also wasn’t very impressive. My Astro A50X gets way louder, so there is no extra volume headroom, and I would argue it’s not sufficient (I play COD). The audio quality did not even seem all that clear or great, even with using the different presets in the app for FPS. The mic being in the right side was very weird and awkward, bad design choice. So yeah, nothing really great to say about my experience with it.

Hi JeremyS,
We apologize the RIG R8 SPECTRE headset didn't work out for you. The max volume should be be in-line with the A50 and other wireless gaming headsets in the market. This could have possibly been a console audio setting or even in-game audio setting that was causing less than ideal volume.
ESSENTIAL COD IN-GAME AUDIO SETTINGS:
Master Game Volume: Keep this at 100 to maximize your dynamic range, then control the final output volume directly on your headset or system.
Music & Dialogue: Turn down Gameplay Music and Cinematic Music to 0 so you don't miss quiet enemy movements. Lower Dialogue Volume to around 30-40 so callouts aren't deafening.
Effects Volume: Max this out at 100. This category specifically controls the volume of footsteps and reloads.
Audio Mix: Setting this to "Headphone Bass Boost" or "Sucker Punch" limits loud noises and boosts quieter frequency sounds like nearby enemy footsteps
Some gamers may not be used to the mic on the right side but we believe, much like fit and comfort, that this is a very subjective element of any gaming headset.
Thanks for giving the RIG R8 SPECTRE headset a try.

I’ve been really impressed with the RIG R8 Pro HS. The sound quality is excellent—clear, immersive, and well-balanced for gaming and everyday use. I also really like using the companion app because the EQ settings let me fine-tune the audio to exactly how I want it, which makes a big difference depending on the game. Overall, it’s a solid headset that delivers great sound and useful customization features without being complicated.

Nacon has delivered what Sony needed… an officially licensed flagship PS5 headset that hits the sweet spot between performance and value. With up to 60 hours of battery life, ultralight breathable design, and custom graphene 40mm drivers optimized for Tempest 3D audio, the RIG R8 Spectre PRO HS punches well above its price point. If you're buying your first PS5 headset or looking to upgrade without breaking the bank, this deserves serious consideration. First Impressions & Unboxing The unboxing experience is clean and straightforward with minimal waste. The official PlayStation branding takes center stage while RIG's branding stays subtle. It looks just right and you immediately recognize the quality in your hands. After powering them on and a soothing voice confirms they're ready to pair. Everything you need comes in the box: the headset, base station dock with RGB lighting, cables, and swappable battery. Setup is effortless - plug the base station into your PlayStation and everything automatically links at 2.4 GHz. You can alternate between 3 modes with the mode switch button (Dual, Game, and Bluetooth). Sound Quality - The Graphene Difference One word: graphene. These 40mm drivers deliver explosive Hi-Fi audio with less than 0.5% total harmonic distortion. They sound significantly bigger than their size suggests, with virtually no distortion even at high volumes. The clarity and soundstage are superb - highs and mids remain crisp while the bass stays clean and defined. For FPS players who rely on spatial awareness and 3D audio positioning, these perform like nothing else at this price point. I own headsets at nearly double the price that can't match the R8's 3D audio performance. The Tempest 3D optimization on PlayStation 5 is exceptional, making these my new go-to for competitive shooters. They've replaced my Pulse Elite headphones as daily drivers. The enhanced audio directionality and localization in games, especially FPS titles, is the best Tempest 3D implementation I've experienced. Connectivity & Features The base station connects via 2.4 GHz for lag-free gaming audio. The headset also supports Bluetooth connectivity for a hybrid "dual mode" solution, though with limitations: What works: You can answer phone calls while gaming - your girlfriend's call or that pizza order won't interrupt your session. What doesn't: You cannot stream Bluetooth audio (music, podcasts) simultaneously with game audio. Switch to Bluetooth mode and you lose game audio. True simultaneous multipoint connectivity is only found in headsets double this price. Download the RIG Navigator app (iOS/Android) to unlock the headset's full potential. Without it, you get a flat audio profile with limited functionality. The app lets you switch between audio profiles optimized for FPS versus single-player cinematic experiences without interrupting your game. PC Compatibility: These work great on PC using the same USB dongle, with all sound controlled through the app. The Dock & Build Quality The base station feels substantial, constructed from heavy materials with rubber feet for stability. Built-in cable management helps keep your setup tidy. The RGB lighting is a nice touch, though it feels unnecessary since it doesn't sync with PS5 or PC - more of a "gamers need RGB somewhere" checkbox than a meaningful feature. The headset itself features quality materials throughout. The memory foam ear cups are plush and customizable, and the overall design screams Sony quality with subtle RIG undertones. Everything feels worthy of the official PlayStation license. Comfort & Fit For the most part, these are comfortable, lightweight, and breathable - far more so than my leatherette-padded premium headset. The memory foam ear cups don't get hot or uncomfortable during long sessions. However, I have fit issues. On my head, they don't seal properly around my ears, causing sound leakage under my earlobe. The clamping pressure seems insufficient, likely due to the headband's shape. Your mileage may vary depending on head shape, but it's worth testing the fit before committing. The 60-hour battery life easily handles marathon gaming sessions, and the ability to buy and swap a fully charged battery makes this nearly foolproof for extended use. Microphone The mic delivers compressed, clear audio quality. While it should be know that while using monitoring, it creates some hiss. The mic is positioned on the right side, which can get in the way for right-handers who snack while gaming. Note that it's non-removable and there's no 3.5mm jack option. Notable Features & Quirks Impressive: R8 ear cup .STL files available for download on RIG's website - make your own custom ear cups with a 3D printer Swappable battery system for unlimited gaming Works seamlessly on both PS5 and PC Missing/Disappointing: No PC app available No chat/game mix slider on the headset itself No button on the base or headset for quick EQ/profile changes Included USB cable is short (3ft) - you'll need to find a longer one No charging slot for a spare battery in the base station Ear shells can pop out during adjustments if you grab the ear cups instead of the headband RGB feels like an unnecessary gimmick Bottom Line The RIG R8 Spectre PRO HS is the best value under $180 for PS5 gaming, period. The graphene drivers deliver exceptional sound quality with industry-leading Tempest 3D performance, especially for competitive FPS players. The 60-hour battery life, swappable battery system, and lightweight breathable design make these ideal for extended sessions. The fit issues may be deal-breakers for some, and the lack of certain convenience features (chat mix slider, spare battery charging) feels like missed opportunities. The Bluetooth functionality is limited compared to premium headsets, and you'll need the mobile app to unlock full customization. Despite these limitations, if you want official PlayStation branding, phenomenal spatial audio, and marathon-ready battery life without spending $300+, these are your headphones. FPS players in particular will appreciate the competitive edge the 3D audio provides. Just make sure they fit your head properly before committing so those with larger craniums, these aren't for you. Best for: FPS players, long gaming sessions, PS5/PC users wanting official Sony quality at mid-tier pricing Skip if: You need perfect fit guarantee, want simultaneous Bluetooth music streaming while gaming, or require physical controls for audio mixing
I've bought a lot of gaming headsets lately, and these are easily one of my top 5 favorites.

I have had multiple headsets that are "designed for PS5" or "compatible with PS5", and they never work right. Yes, you can get sound through them, but you can't control the volume or the microphone without going into a settings menu on the PS5. Not super convenient to try and pause, go to settings, and adjust volume in the middle of a game. I had almost given up on finding a solution until I tried the RIG-R8 Spectre Pro. I have this connected through the dongle to my PS5, and it was immediately recognized. A few adjustments for Dolby Atmos sound and other things were done in the settings menu, but the great news is that the toggle wheel for the volume control works, and the microphone is off when up, and on when down. It actually works like it's supposed to for the PS5!! Comfort wise, I like that the earpads are a cloth/foam style material vs leather. Better for breathability and comfort. The sound is great and the microphone is clear. Padding on the headband adds to the stability and comfort, and the overall design is fantastic. Dual connectivity allows you to have it connected to your PS5 and phone for easy switching if a call comes in while you're gaming. Controls and mic are on the right side ear, which took some getting used to. Most headsets have all the controls and mic on the left. Reasons why I deducted a star. I downloaded the Android app to connect and do the firmware update. It won't recognize that the headset is connected, no matter how many attempts or different ways I tried. I ended up doing it through an iphone instead and it immediately showed up, allowing me to update it. Android app needs to be fixed. Also, there have been times when I'm in the middle of a game and the sound cuts out. The only way to get it back is to hit a button on the side to wake it back up. Haven't figured out yet why it's doing that or how to stop it from going to sleep. Overall, the minor issues I've had don't change the fact that I couldn't be happier to have a solid option for a PS5 headset where I can control the volume and the mic from the headset, and not in a settings menu. I would absolutely recommend this for PS5 users!

THIS… IS the Rig R8 Pro, a mid to high range wireless gaming headset that brings a lot to the table. With a sleek look, graphene drivers and the ability to connect to several devices at once… lets see how the Rig R8 Pro stacks up. Taking the R8 Pro out of the box, the quality and lightweight construction is instantly recognizable. The ear cups feel memory foam esq and the sleek matte black finish staves off any fingerprints pretty well. This is continued with the R8’s base station in a slim, matte black finish. The base station has a few tricks up its sleeve as well with elegant rgb lighting that doubles as an indicator light, a USB dongle for switching devices and a retention mechanism that actually works well at catching and charging your headphones when you set them down on it. The R8 Pro’s are light on the head, which makes wearing them for several hours no problem. I also didn’t find my ears or head getting hot after extended use which is also a nice +1. There is no indicator for which side to put the headphones on, however, the mic is always on the left side as it can only be pulled down one way. I never had any connection issues either as I found reliability to be a key feature. It really is as simple as turning them on and going without having to jump through hoops. Now what we are alllll here for! These headphones sound…. Good! There is a clear lack of bass in the low to mid volume range, however, these are not meant to be bass heavy as they lean towards clarity to give you an edge in gaming. That isn’t to say that there is no bass, as the volume knob will elicit rumbling bass… though… that is at the higher volumes. I found tracking footsteps easy and identifying not only what but where things close by were. The mic is also just as great with clear audio that never skips or lags; which is what you really want in the end anyways. The headset does come with several software features and an app that is not only well done but quick and easy to use. There is an EQ so you can tune to your preference as well if the stock build isn’t what you are looking for. Battery life is fantastic and not really an issue with the base station. I left these off the base station for 3 days just to see if I would run into any battery life problems and can say I never did! Rig also allows you to easily replace the magnetic exterior housing on the headset with aftermarket housings to add some flair. To wrap this up, RIG really hit it out of the park with the R8 Pro as there was literally no weak point that I could find. From reliability to comfort to sound quality, everything was well executed and carefully thought of. These headphones easily became my daily gaming / multimedia headphones because they just do everything so well without having to think about it. A+ for RIG and I think that you will have the same thought as I do. Until next time :)

The RIG R8 Pro HS is an extremely comfortable gaming headset with excellent audio quality and a great sounding microphone. In this review, I’ll cover its features, sound quality, overall look and feel, and microphone performance. The headset includes several standout features. The RGB charging base plugs directly into the console and offers multiple lighting effects to set the mood of your gaming space. The headset can connect to both your phone and your console at the same time, allowing for dual audio from two devices. Another advantage is the RIG R Pro Navigator app, which lets users fine tune their headset settings. In the app, you can adjust microphone gain, customize the EQ or choose from presets, toggle sidetone (hearing yourself), and check the headset’s battery level. The battery lasts a long time, so you won’t need to worry about it dying mid session. The headset offers a wide range of EQ presets, making it easy to tailor the sound for different games or activities. Being able to adjust audio directly from the app is incredibly convenient. The sound itself is clean, crisp, and well balanced across frequencies, avoiding harshness or ear fatigue. The design of the headset is simple, clean, and professional. The materials feel high quality and durable. The padded adjustable headband adds to the comfort, making it ideal for long gaming sessions. Overall, the style and build feel premium and well thought out. One of the most important aspects of any headset is the microphone, and this one performs very well. It automatically mutes when flipped up and unmutes when lowered, making it easy to control without touching the controller. The microphone sounds clear and crisp, with no echo or distortion during testing with other players. Overall, the RIG R8 Pro HS delivers great value for its price. It’s comfortable, versatile, stylish, and equipped with a strong microphone for smooth communication. The app features add even more convenience, making it a solid choice for a wide range of gaming needs.

My adult son has been using the RIG Sprectre Pro HS mostly for NBA 2K26 on PS5, and overall he is pretty happy with it. Setup was super easy - just plu in, sync it and he was ready to go in a few minutes, No messing aroung with confusing menus or anything. The sound quality is really solid. You can hear everything clearly, from the crowd noise to the sneaker squeaks and commentary, and it definitly make the game feel more immersive. Audio is crisp and loud without feeling distorted. He also said there were no connection or lag issues. Comfort-wise, he said it was decent, bit is did feel a little tight around the ears after wearing it for a long session. Not a deal breaker, but something he noticed compared to his other headset. He said the charging dock is cool and looks nice on set-up, bit it is bigger that what he is used to. His old headset just charged with a cord, and he could still use it while charging. With this one, you have to set it on the base to charge, so it is less convenient if the battery goes low while you are playing. It says the battery lasts up to 60 hours on a single charge. The color options to customize the base station are a very cool option with over 100 combinations! Overall, if you want a straong sound, easy set-up, and a clean wireless set-up, this headset is worth checking out. He just wished it was a little looser around the was and had a backup cord charging option.

I picked up the RIG R8 Spectre Pro HS and I have to say this thing has genuinely impressed me from day one. I was a little skeptical going in because I have tried a handful of gaming headsets over the years and they all seem to have at least one thing that bothers me. This one does not. SETUP AND BUILD: Right out of the box you get the headset, the USB-C wireless transmitter, the charging base station, the snap lock PlayStation mod plates and everything you need to get going. Setup was honestly one of the easiest I have ever done. There is even a QR code in the box that walks you through it if you need it. The fact that this is officially licensed by PlayStation meant it paired with my PS5 perfectly without any headaches. BATTERY AND BASE STATION: 60 hours of battery life. Sixty. I honestly cannot wrap my head around it because I feel like I have been playing constantly since I got this and I still have not had to worry about it dying on me. The base station is a great place to dock it between sessions and it charges automatically when it is sitting in it. The RGB lighting on the base station is a nice bonus for the setup as well. COMFORT: First time I put these on they felt a little snug and I was not sure how I felt about that. I also have a larger head which doesn’t help. Within a few minutes the memory foam ear cushions did their thing and it all settled in perfectly. After 4 hours of gaming they were still comfortable and my ears never felt hot or sweaty which is a big deal for me during long sessions. The earcups are also easy to swap out thanks to the magnetic snap lock system which is a nice touch. MICROPHONE: The boom mic is not removable which honestly does not bother me at all. I asked a few people how I sounded during sessions and everyone said my voice came through clear and easy to understand. No complaints there. SOUND QUALITY: This is where the R8 really shines and it is hard to overstate how good the audio is for gaming specifically. The headset is tuned for first person shooters and what that means in real terms is that sounds like footsteps, distant gunfire and positional audio are incredibly clear and accurate. You can genuinely hear someone walking up on you before they get there and you can tell exactly which direction it is coming from. The bass is controlled rather than boomy which might throw some people off at first but it is absolutely the right call for competitive gaming. Muddy bass would cover up all those sounds you need to hear. For music I would probably grab something else but for gaming this thing is in a league of its own. VERDICT: If you are a PS5 gamer who takes their audio seriously this headset is the real deal. Comfortable for long sessions, outstanding positional audio, mic that actually works, and battery life that basically eliminates the need to think about charging. Easy purchase in my mind.

Overall these are great gaming headphones that, due to their great connectivity and features, also be used for music, movies, or just chatting. The headset is made of a durable plastic. It feels pretty light but potentially able to withstand some drops (though I did not test this with my brand new headphones, haha). The first thing I noticed about the headset is how comfortable it is. With gaming headset build quality, comfort is one of the most important factors for me because I often wear them for long sessions. To that end, the earcup and headband padding is plush but not excessive. I don’t feel like the clamping of the headset is excessive. Also, I’m happy to say this headset does not make me overheat, which is a common concern for me. The controls on the headset are intuitive. They are physical which is essential to me when I’m gaming and trying to adjust my settings in the middle of a match. One hardware feature I wanted to highlight is the “SNAP+LOCK” system. This allows the user to swap the ear cushions and the design on the outer portion of the earcups without tools. The parts appear to be held on with magnets. In my testing, while they were easy to remove if I intended to remove them, there was no accidental separation of the pads from the headset. I’ve definitely worn through cushions before so I appreciate how easy they are to swap, and I could see myself wanting to swap the playstation logo on the exterior for something more discrete. Also, the headset includes a dock which is super convenient for storage and display of the headphones. There is also a place to store the dongle on the dock as well. The headset also has a USB port directly on the device to allow for direct charging. There are a lot of great connectivity options on this device. It includes a USB C dongle which offers a 2.4ghz wireless connection, and Bluetooth 5.2. One thing I did find annoying about the dongle is that the bulk of it is perpendicular to the connector, meaning it may block a neighboring port. With my computer, I was able to position it in a way that was not impactful, but with my phone, it wouldn’t fully seat into the port with my case on. It’s a rare occurrence that I’d use the dongle with my phone, but worth mentioning. The connectivity was rock solid for me. In either mode I had no connectivity issues. Also, the device allows for input switching as well as simultaneous multi-device connection, again both of which worked super well. The audio quality of this device is great. I tested it with gaming, chat, and music. I felt like it had a wide frequency response, which shines in gaming with sounds like explosions or music with deep bass response like EDM or hip hop. If low end is not your thing there is also an included app that allows you to adjust the EQ to your liking. It also allows for mic gain adjustment and the ability to update firmware. Overall these are great gaming headphones that, due to their great connectivity and features, also be used for music, movies, or just chatting.

The RIG - R8 SPECTRE PRO HS Wireless Bluetooth Gaming Headset offers unparalleled performance and sound quality. It is a premium product that will appeal to gamers that want top notch quality. The fit and finish is likewise what you would expect at this price point. The headset is sturdy but also comfortable to wear. Sound quality it superb and sounds similar to premium headphones that I use with my home theater system. Even though this headset is branded as a PS product, it is fully compatible with PC’s using the USB receiver or Bluetooth. I tested it with my PS5 and gaming PC and found this headset to be fully functional with both. The first thing I noticed about this product is the substantial mass. While being what I would describe as sturdy, the headset is surprisingly light for its footprint. You will know it is there, but it is surprisingly comfortable to wear. It is manufactured from a lightweight but strong material that should hold up well under vigorous use. The first step I took was to download the App and pair the headset to the App. The App is full featured and offers a substantial amount of adjustment to the use and sound of the headset. As expected, there is a full featured equalizer as well as other customization options. The included wireless USB receiver works perfectly with my PS5 as well as my gaming PC. I tested it watching videos from streaming App’s as well as gaming. The sound was amazing either way I used it and I plan to use it for both uses. I think it is great that this headset will fulfill my gaming needs and that if I want to take a break from gaming, that I can then switch seamlessly to watching videos. The sound quality from the RIG R8 SPECTRE PRO HS Gaming Headset is excellent. This is due the the premium engineering and heavy duty drivers. The sound is full range and detailed, and the bass is as deep as you want it to be. As i indicated above, this headset can double as general purpose headphones for watching entertainment videos. In my opinion even the most discerning audiophile will be impressed with the sound quality. The boom microphone also excels at transmitting sound. The operating hours is the best I have seen in a headset to date. I have been using it for several days now for a few each day, and it has barely made a dent to the battery. The headset cradle doubles as a charger but since the battery lasts so long the cradle can be put away until needed. This is how I am using it since I prefer a minimalist aesthetic. I highly recommend the RIG - R8 SPECTRE PRO HS Wireless Bluetooth Gaming Headset to gamers and casual users alike. It excels at gaming and entertainment listening. This is the best gaming headset that I have used to date, and am looking forward to using it for my gaming and entertainment needs.
