The Moulin Rouge of Paris is a dazzling and spectacular universe, the symbol of the Parisian way of celebrating since 1889. Avram Brown, professionally known as The Wheel, is a Portland, Oregon-based recording artist and producer. Brown's earliest musical inspiration was his parents 60s- and '70s-heavy record collection. With folk music roots that ran deep, poetry and songwriting came early in life, but soon gave way to a fascination with improvised psychedelic rock, jazz, experimental, devotional and avant-garde music. Combining his melodic vocal-driven song-craft with kaleidoscopic production and guitar textures, The Wheel spins open an interdimensional portal that weaves indie folk-rock into psychedelic dreamscapes on his debut self-titled album releasing in early 2024. The Wheel and Raymond Richards (Local Natives, LCD Soundsystem) co-produced the record, which features contributions from violist/arranger Kyleen King (Brandi Carlile, The Decemberists), recording engineer Larry Crane (Elliot Smith), and the late great Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, The B-52's) on baritone saxophone and bass clarinet. This LP is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl. Album Tracks 1. 1. Wintered Wanderlust 2. 2. Clearing Ground 3. 3. Crashing Down 4. 4. Coyote Mask 5. 5. Love & Truth 6. 6. River Is Up 7. 7. But, even with only very minimal touring outside of southern California, their brilliant live show and excellent songcraft started to attract a fair amount of national attention in publications like Harper's Bazaar and Rolling Stone, and even some airplay on MTV. The band initially self-released Take Offs and Landings before signing to Barsuk, who promptly reissued the album. Album Tracks 1. Go Ahead 2. Science Vs. Romance 3. Wires and Waves 4.
