BEWARE - This is a Power-Over-Ethernet doorbell only. This requires running an Ethernet cable through your house to outside under your siding to wherever you’re mounting your doorbell. Install complexity will vary by house and install cost will vary by house if you choose to pay someone to run the cable. If you have a basement/crawl space with an open ceiling, not dry walled off, you may only have a mildly frustrating time running cable yourself. I have included pictures some pictures of the cables through my crawl space. Q: Why is POE the only option for this doorbell camera? A: Having the doorbell powered over Ethernet allows for you to one, never have to change a battery which enables 24/7 recording and two, it will be on a wired internet connection which will ensure the best possible audio/video quality along with no WiFi “dropouts.” Reason number three, I believe you can enable the doorbell to be connected to other devices like a remote access gate or door. The camera itself: Much higher video and audio quality than the newest gen 2k battery WiFi ring doorbell this just replaced. The video is clear enough to actually see details of a person walking down the street and not just a pixelated blob that represents a person. Audio is also otherworldly compared to the WiFi doorbell with it being as clear or more clear than a phone call. I have pictures attached showing the comparison of video quality. Would I say this doorbell is worth the price? I will say that $500 is insane and the $350 on sale I got it for is also very expensive but when you live in a not-so-great neighborhood like I do and the lower quality, not 24/7 recording camera doesn’t capture everything I need it to; I would say yes. Also, install on a product like this would be expensive and this really is a higher-end security product so if you’re looking at this, you probably aren’t worried too much about cost.
