About this product
As a boy, Roy was first influenced by the sanctifyin' gospel music that poured out of the windows of the Pentecostal church near his home. In his early years, he was also exposed to the crackling electrified country music later dubbed the Bakersfield soundInch pioneered especially by country legends Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Roy left home in his mid-teens and journeyed to Los Angeles where he absorbed deep blues and the sparkling jump sound of the west coast cool rhythm and blues music being played in black clubs. Johnny Otis' two guitar sensations, Jimmy Nolen and Pete InchGuitarInch Lewis, had a big impact on Roy's creation of his own sound. For thirty years Roy played the best bar blues in the country. Guitar players from all over the area, then from all over the country, and eventually from all over the world, migrated to the clubs to hear him coax astounding rhythms and unimaginably brilliant leads from his battered, but ever faithful, Telecaster. This CD allows you to go back in time into those clubs and hear Roy as he was meant to be heard. It is a great gift to US all.Inch - Alan Scheflin San Francisco, California, May 2009. Album Tracks 1. Hot Cha 2. Amazing Grace 3. Delta Woman 4. The Messiah Will Come Again 5. Malaguena 6. Good God Have Mercy 7. I'm Evil 8. Green Onions

EU-only two CD collection. During the early 1970s, Roy Buchanan was feted as the greatest rock guitarist the world had ever known. This superb CD from Jasmine takes a step back into his early career where he spent many years scuffling as a guitar slinger in numerous bands and doing a substantial amount of session work. Collected across this 44 track set are examples of his dynamic guitar contributions to a bevy of national, regional and downright parochial recording artists including Dale Hawkins, Bob Luman, Freddy Cannon, and Danny and The Juniors. As well as all that there a couple of singles released under his own name plus a couple or more tracks where the jury is still out as to the identity of the guitar player. Outstanding guitar work is what this CD is all about and although these early recordings don't quite give the full picture of his exemplary talent for improvisation and creativity that would come in the ‘70s, they certainly show the signs of it developing, and tracks such as InchThe Jam (Part 1 and 2)Inch demonstrate his dynamic and original guitar sound.
