We decided to go and look for a soundbar because the speakers we had in our 7.1 sound system took up too much room in our family room. We went thinking to spend about $200, but when we found out how far the technology had come with soundbars we spent $750. We purchased a Samsung to match up with our existing TV connections, computer, and make installation easier. The sales rep at Best Buy was very knowledgeable about the products and especially Samsung. He made our choice much easier because of so many brands in the store and was efficient in writing it up and getting out to our car.

Sound quality is amazing sounds so realistic with the read speakers added to the set up much better than the 5.1 Vizio sound bar and would definitely reccomend this

The sound is great. A lot of great features. A lot of customization. Nice app base. Wouldn't recommend with a large space.

This device has bad issues with connectivity. The blue tooth stopped working. I’ve owned this for two years, I wouldn’t recommend this sound bar to the father of lies, Morning Star, prince of darkness, or my mother in law!

Still not getting Dolby Atmos sound I returned one

Gomoney20,
Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-K850 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with the user experience.
Please know that the request for Dolby Atmos through ARC is not related to the Soundbar, but to the source device. Please make sure your TV can pass through Dolby Atmos signals to the Soundbar.
Alternatively, you can make your Soundbar play Dolby Atmos content by connecting a capable device -- such as a Samsung UHD Blu-ray player-- to the K950 via HDMI. When an Atmos soundtrack is played back from the source device, the Soundbar light will illuminate blue and display “Dolby ATMOS” on the Soundbar screen. Also please check the external device you are using as it may require additional steps to pass Dolby Atmos – for example, if using a Samsung UHD Blu-ray Player, the UHD Blu-ray Audio setting need to be changed to “Bitstream (Uncompressed)”.

Overall, a great mid range soundbar... clear sound, no distortion... personally should have gone with the 950 series which produces a bigger sound... but a great price for a great soundbar. Easy to setup, responds well.

I REPLACED THE TOP MODEL BOSE SOUNDBAR FROM 2014, THIS IS REALLY AN UPGRADE, THE SUBWOOFER GETS 10 STARS, ITS JUST AMAZING FOR SUCH A SMALL SPEAKER. THE SOUNDBAR ITSELF PERFORMS WELL, I WOULD LIKE A BIT MORE VOLUME, BUT ITS PERFECT FOR MOST PEOPLE, I PROBABLY HAVE SOME HEARING DAMAGE FROM BLASTING SOUND THROUGH THE PAST... WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

I was surprised at how loud the volume could be set at. The quality of the sound is great being able to hear different ranges of the sounds. The sub-woofer adds great base sounds which can be set at different preferences for the base sounds. Feels like you are there particularly live performances such as different sporting events.

I am absolutely satisfied with this Soundbar. It sounds amazing. The speakers bounce the sound off my ceiling and it sounds so cool when stuff is coming at you from above and in front. It makes watching movies and playing music more enjoyable now.

I’ve had 2 previous sound bars, but they do not come close to the sound and the bass that this sound bar gives you. The subwoofer connection is much better than the last one I had, and had not disconnected, or muted at all.

The product is amazing, the quality and sound is definitely out of this world but let me be clear....you need to make sure you have the right equipment in order to use Dolby Atmos. When I visited best buy and spoke to the rep I was told that the soundbar would be fully functional if I connected it to the TV directly with HDMI and that my TV was 4k. After I purchased the item and a month later went by I wanted to test the Dolby Atmos feature (I know I took forever but I have a crazy work schedule so I finally had time to settle at home and watch a movie). When I purchased a movie through VUDU the DOLBY ATMOS logo did not show and it was because my 4K TV was not supported, afterwards I checked NETFLIX and other streaming services....long story short I couldn't utilize the Dolby Atrmos feature. So how can I use the feature if my 4K TV is not compatible with these streaming services? I will need to now buy a samsung blu-ray 4k receiver (whatever you call it) and it was something that I was avoiding. If I had known about this I would purchased another soundbar without the DOLBY ATMOS feature. This could of all been avoided if the best buy rep could of been more knowledgeable of the item, he literally said "the device will be fully functional if I connect directly with an HDMI and the TV is 4k and the samsung blu-ray is not needed." besides my small rant on my negative customer experience the product is amazing again....just make sure you can use all of its featutre, make you have the right TV and whatever else you need.

This is a great soundbar that fills the room. It was easy to connect and sync to my Samsung QLED 4K tv, but make sure you pay attention to the directions when connecting for the Dolby Atmos sound. Had to watch a few you-tube videos to get this right. Once you have it connected, you will love the full surround sound in the room.

First off, I'm not an audiophile. This bar/subwoofer sounds great with minimal to no discernable distortion at very high or very low volumes. Volume range is very dependent upon source. For example, 50-60 is a reasonable level for broadcast stations and a PS4, but only 25-30 is required to achieve the same output for the Chromecast. This affects max volume capability for a given input. Sound bar works well with ARC if your TV supports it (TV remote controls bar volume and turns on/off with TV). One negative, is that the sound bar will turn off if it doesn't detect sound for a prolonged period. If this occurs, it needs to be manually turned back on (or turn the TV off/on to have ARC request it to turn back on).

Great sound & pairs perfectly with my Samsung TV. Makes watching movies from home a whole new experience. The Dolby Atmos is great!

The sound is good with a good sub woofer. The ATMOS speakers really do not work well if you are in a somewhat large room. Even after I had adjusted the individual speaker volumes and setting the ATMOS speakers all the way up. I also found that it does not have a whole lot of volume again depending on room size. Also had variable lip sync issues with different source's or from channel to channel on cable TV. I performed lip Sync adjustments that are in the option menu but had to also reset them according to the sources or channels. But having said that it does have a good sound. Not worth the $1000.00 I would look at other sound bars. It is an individual preference.

Very simple to connect; got up and running in few minutes, no special skills needed. Great sound after tweaking and figuring out which of the built-in pre-set configurations to go with. Cranked up the volume and tried some of the Atmos videos on Youtube, sounded great. Once in a while has a little glitch in powering on with TV remote and must turn it (bar) on separately to get woofer to connect via bluetooth but has not failed to connect yet. A little pricey but happy with the purchase so far. Would consider getting the side speakers maybe in the future to enhance the sound further. Definitely much better than just the TV speakers and prefer it over the cheaper sound bars out there.

We have had problems with the sound bar communicating with the tv. Geek squad had to come out twice to reconfigure it. As long as I don't go through the tv apps, it's ok, but he said it's a 1st generation and there are a lot of kinks to work out. Updates should take care of it.

I was shocked by good this system sounded. I was coming from a 5.1 surround sound system with huge speakers and a sub. I wanted less components for my children to trip over or break. The sound bar was my attempt to consolidate. I thought I would be losing quality, but I was wrong. The sound is great. Set up was easy, but the UI is a bit confusing.... all of the hdmi ports help. I have my PS4, Apple TV, roku 3 plugged directly into the sound bars hdmi ports. So if I touch any of those remotes, everything associated with it turns on ( sound bar, tv, and device) . If you have the money, it's a great buy.

Great sound at, good quality, great sound. Sub woofer is very good. Sound does not break and is crips and clear. Base is nice and strong without distortion.

Here's a sound addition to your tech wish list: Dolby Atmos. Many recent advances in home theater focus on ramping up video quality. First, 4K Ultra HD added more definition to high definition. Then came High Dynamic Range (HDR) for improved contrast and an expanded, richer color palette on 4K TVs. But sound is just as important in home theater as it is at the multiplex. Over the years, Dolby has helped revolutionize home theater with sound technologies such as Dolby Digital, which delivers up to eight discrete digital channels including one for a subwoofer. Dolby Atmos, its latest advance, brings three-dimensionality with audio that travels around you and upward, even over your head, adding depth and aural substance to your home theater's sound field. Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also designed so that sound more precisely matches what's happening on screen — traveling up and down, front and back, and side to side more accurately
