I'm not taking the price into account in the review since it's not their fault for the whole market inflation. The drive is excellent. The speed in the drive is what is says it should be. Installation is simple as always. Make sure you initialize the drive!

Samsung makes the best SSDs hands down. I have used them in over 30 computers in the last 15 years with no issues at all. One even has 24TB written to it. Sure, other competitors are catching up, but they just cannot top the performance, reliability, and longevity. I have tested the 990 Pro up against the 970 Evo, 980 Pro (Gen 4), Western Digital SN810 (Gen 4), and Crucial (Gen 4). Just make sure your 990 Pro firmware is up to date! The prior issues with some of the 980 Pros and 990 Pros was solved with the firmware update. I have recently installed 990 Pros in 4 HP Omen laptops and tested the above mentioned competitors in the same laptops. The others can come close to beating the 990 Pro on a segment or 2 on CrystalDisk, but there is a significant difference in the 990 Pro. The Western Digital did surprisingly well. I have included a pic of a WD test and a 990 Pro test. Neither were enhanced, optimized, or set to performance. Just a straight out of the box test on laptops with less than 30 minutes of up time. Side Note: The UserBenchmark test had a hard time reading the 990 Pro for some reason, but was able to test the others just fine.

I installed the Samsung 990 PRO NVMe in my Framework Laptop 13, and the biggest thing to understand is this: this drive is built to push the limits of PCIe 4.0, and the Framework actually lets it stretch its legs. The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen 4 ×4 NVMe drive. That means it communicates directly over four PCIe lanes instead of using the older SATA interface. In practice, that translates to theoretical read speeds up to about 7,450 MB/s and write speeds around 6,900 MB/s. SATA tops out near 550 MB/s. This isn’t a small bump - it’s an order-of-magnitude jump. In the Framework 13, those speeds are real. The laptop supports full Gen 4 bandwidth, so you’re not leaving performance on the table. Large file transfers move absurdly fast. Cloning drives or copying multi-gigabyte datasets feels closer to RAM behavior than old-school storage. Where NVMe really shows its strength isn’t just sequential speed. It’s queue depth and latency. The 990 PRO handles a huge number of small read/write requests simultaneously. That’s what makes the system feel sharp when you’re multitasking. Browser tabs loading, background indexing, compiling code, and OS processes can all hit the drive at once without it stalling. The controller and NAND design matter here. Samsung uses its own in-house controller and V-NAND. The firmware is mature, and the drive manages its SLC cache intelligently. During sustained writes, once the cache fills, speeds drop - that’s normal for TLC-based drives - but the recovery is fast and consistent. In everyday use, you rarely hit that wall unless you’re pushing hundreds of gigabytes at once. Thermals are surprisingly controlled for a high-performance NVMe. NVMe drives can run hot because they’re effectively tiny PCIe computers. In the Framework 13, the 990 PRO gets warm under stress, but it doesn’t aggressively throttle during typical workloads. For daily use, it’s stable. Power efficiency is another quiet strength. High-end NVMe drives used to be battery killers. The 990 PRO is much better at entering low-power states when idle. In a laptop context, that matters more than peak benchmark numbers.

I have had this for about 6 months. Never had any issues. Install was easy as expected. Plan to buy another once it fills up. Best Buy had a good deal on it as well and seemed like the most trustworthy place to buy rn.

Great SSD m.2 for the money very very fast even when using a pc that only have PCI-E gen 3 loads up games very quickly start up time is way faster than my old ssd definitely a noticeable difference when playing games and their load times haven’t had issues also if you do buy make sure you download Samsung magician and UPDATE IMMEDIATELY to make sure that the old firmware doesnt shorten the life of it since it’s a know problem with these m.2 980 and 990 evo

This nvme has amazingly fast speeds. It is a perfect representation of new gen tech. This ssd works works perfectly with my matching 990 pro nvme. 10/10 amazing purchase would recommend.

First, I just wanna say I bought this when it was $109, so to see it for $239 and saying you saving $80 is kind of absurd. Other than the price hike, I love that it’s super fast and it loads all my games loading times are pretty non-existent. I’ve been running it for well over a year now and I have nothing bad to say about it

I just love it! I just built my first pc last week, and it runs amazing and I love my white aesthetic that I’m going for too! Eventually I’ll be going for 2tb but this is sufficient for now !

Purchase lots of 4.0 drives including many different manufacturers as I operate large raid arrays. Not going to lie, these drives are incredible and with testing 12 drives thru 3x 4.0 PCIe slots with CPU/Software based raid 0 stripe and these are the numbers. Definition of RAW awesomeness Tested other manufacturers and while they are pretty close I wasn't seeing any drop in either top end or sustained reads or writes so throughly impressed. And oh boy, talk about IOPS, this has more than anything I've run, infact a lot more legs on it than any other controller. Samsung did a great job! Net findings: WELL WORTH THE MONEY

Works good! I didn’t even need a heat sink because I have a really good motherboard. I’ve had my rig going for about a month & no issues.

I use this to make a clone of the system disk of one of my computers, to serve as a backup. I can do this relatively quickly. I repeat the process every two months. This provides a relatively quick way to recover in the event of a major system crash.

Before buying this item, I had to run games on a HHD so I've experienced many stutters. After getting this SSD, my games run smoother and I enjoying having so much space to work this.

Bought this to use with my new Mac Mini M2 for external storage. Super fast, can't tell it is external. Everything I expected plus more! Used with C2598-NVMe enclosure and it registers at 10 Gbps

Extremely fast NVME drive. It also runs much cooler than the WD SN850X I also have. Earlier drives had a firmware issue but the one I bought had the latest firmware already.

Very happy with my purchase. Prices of storage have skyrocketed and I got this at slightly discounted price. Best Buy knows what’s best and even for my “outdated” motherboard MSI x470 gaming pro and this nvme M.2 internal ssd which is PCIe 4.0 works with PCIe 3.0 so I can upgrade my mobo for double speed while still getting the cost of one that would only work with PCIe 3.0.
