An intense performance by Al Pacino. Lt. Col. Frank Slade is a blind bitter ex-military person who's alienated most of his family. Chris O'Donnell plays Charlie Simms scholarship student from Oregon trying to earn money to go home for Christmas Holiday. He thinks he is getting a simple job watching Col. Slade for the weekend. Charlie has no idea what he is about to experience. Before beginning his task Charlie and another student witness an act of vandalism being set up. When the deed is is done. The headmaster calls in Charlie and George Willis Jr. to name the vandals. George claims he is unable to because he wasn't wearing his contacts. Charlie trying to be a stand up guy says he doesn't know. The headmaster dismisses the former and confronts Charlie. The headmaster offers Charlie a bribe of a full ride scholarship to Harvard. He's given the Thanksgiving Holiday to think about it. Well Lt. Col. Slade decides he's going to New York City with Charlie in tow. He doesn't let the young man his true objective. Thinking he just doing a simple bucket list Charlie's goes along. Frank crashes his brother's Thanksgivig Dinner causing a violent uproar. Going through all of this termoil Frank starts to like the kid. When Charlie explains his perdicument Frank sees the issue and that Charlie's father is looking after his son and will throw Charlie to the wolves. Charlie learns of Col. Slade's objective he intervenes at his own risk. Eventually Slade decides not to go through with his plans. They head back to Charlie's school for Charlie to face the music. Col. Slade steps up in defense of Charlie and rips the panel a new one. Given the ecidence, the panel has no choice but to find not guilty of all charges. In the meantime, Frank may have founded a new love interest. This is one of Pacino's most powerful performances and we see the talent of Phillip Seymour Hoffman taked too soon. Kudos for Chris O'Donnell as well.

One of my all time favorite movies. Al Pacino absolutely nails this role. A true father-son road trip movie that isn’t!

I have seen this movie before, bought the DVD at Bestbuy.com, and have not yet opened the DVD case. The outside of it looks beautiful, so I can't wait to open it. I am doing this review because this is the second time I got an email requesting a review. I haven't had time to open it.

One of Pacino's best films. He plays a blind ex-military officer being "babysat" by a student needing money. The job turns out to be not what he expected. Great movie at a great price.

Intense character study of a young man hired to sit with an older, eccentric blind veteran.
