About this product
The figure of George Frideric Handel cast a long shadow over musical London in the first half of the eighteenth century; casting many of his contemporaries - fine composers themselves - into centuries of obscurity. This recording throws light into forgotten corners and discovers some glittering gems; some of them demanding dazzling vocal fireworks from their performers. Several of these composers set scenes from Classical mythology or Old Testament narratives - but they also explore the underside of the Baroque psyche in one of David's darkest psalms and in a representation of Arcadian madness. The largest part of the output of the Hamburg-born composer and writer Walter Niemann (1876-1973), a student of both Humperdinck and Reinecke, is piano music an astonishing 1,000 or so pieces, divided into 189 opus numbers. Most of them are lyrical miniatures in a warm and approachable late-Romantic style, some evoking the music of the past. Occasionally, though, as in Hamburg, a recollection of scenes from his childhood, a degree of mild dissonance indicates his desire to stay true to his memories of growing up in a port city. Album Tracks 1. Der Artushof Suite Aus Alt-Danzig, Op. 158 (1941) 2. Jura-Sommer Kleine Impressionen, Op. 119 (1929) 3. Bunte Blumen Sieben Klavierstücke, Op. 139 (Publ. 1934) 4. Hamburg Ein Zyklus Von 13 Charakterstücken, Op. 107 (Publ. 1926)

Nicolaus Richter de Vroe, one of the strongest talents among the younger composer from Saxony, joined since the mid-eighties produced primarily with instrumental chamber music. And even in the West, he made a sudden talking point after he had won in 1985 at the Cologne Composition Competition InchYoung Generation in EuropeInch a price. Previously, Judge de Vroe had (with a major in violin) visited the Special School of Music in Dresden, the university and finally five years the famous Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. There was a lot of opportunity, more modern than in Dresden perceive. Even Cage came up, and began Richter de Vroe to penetrate into the mind of Zen Buddhism. All in all predominate in pieces Judge de Vroes subversive moments against ingrained conventions of composing, playing and listening. They range from the preferred exploring the regions of noise liable - on the individual, detailed game-action (against a collective feeling generated mass al fresco) - up to the incoherent, free child, labyrinthine design of musical progressions. There are, in spite of explosive force, a predominant gestures of violence, combined with a knack for subtle, fragile and aimlessly static, what time - at least in the music of the GDR - a completely new quality possessed, but beyond all probaten forms of aggressive ideological composing differed.
