These works were commissioned by the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart to write works to mark Bach Year 2000. Osvaldo Golijov´s Pasión Según San Marcos is the work of one who moves back and forth between different worlds and can scarcly be pigeonholed as representing a specific culture. His work unites the music of South America, Cuba, the West and Jewish tradition to produce an unconventional conception of a InchPassionInch in which Jesus is not a light skinned European, but instead a person of color. Sofia Gubaidulina's response was a St John Passion, and subsequently she added a sequel, St John Easter, which was premiered in Hamburg in March 2002. Both those works originally had Russian words, drawn mostly from St John's gospel and the Book of Revelation, but in 2006, prompted by conductor Helmuth Rilling, Gubaidulina collaborated on a German translation of the text, while also making revisions to the score itself. Album Tracks 1. St. John Passion (Johannes-Passion)~Das Wort (The Word) 2. St. John Passion (Johannes-Passion)~Fußwaschung (The Washing of Feet) 3. St. John Passion (Johannes-Passion)~Das Gebot des Glaubens (The Commandment of Faith) 4. St. John Passion (Johannes-Passion)~Das Gebot der Liebe (The Commandment of Love) 5. ![Fitzwilliam String Quartet - Late String Quartets - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/4899ce80-019d-4bd2-ad19-5bfe71661033.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Having celebrated it's fiftieth anniversary in 2019, it is perhaps remarkable that the Fitzwilliam String Quartet has not already recorded this towering pinnacle of Western music repertoire Schubert's String Quartet in G major, D. 887. This revelatory recording on period instruments proves it was well worth the wait! The work's idiomatic grandeur and overall complexity coupled with it's everchanging tonalities and otherworldly atmosphere call for the sort of stamina that is the privilege of a limited few. The Fitzwilliams rise admirably to the challenge, demonstrating the characteristic expertise which has defined their recordings over many decades. Inexplicably left unfinished, the C minor 'Quartettsatz' rounds off the program. This chiseled, and yet formally unorthodox, single movement is presented here with it's Andante second movement completed by leading Schubert scholar Brian Newbould. Album Tracks 1. String Quartet No. 12 in C minor, D. 703 InchQuartettsatzInch 2. String Quartet No. 15 in G Major, D. 887

Anton Bruckner and Sankt Florian, an incomparable and authentic relationship In the monastery of Sankt Florian, Bruckner's home and resting place, not a single stone has changed since Br uckner's time. Conductor in Residence Rémy Ballot and the Altomonte Orchestra of St. Florian have been using the annual gathering at the St. Florian Brucknertage festival for more than ten years now to devote themselves intensively to a selected Bruckner symphony and to present it to the audience in one or two celebrated concerts. From the live recordings this 10-part cycle was created and in 2023 completed with the recording of the InchNullified Symphony WAB 100Inch and is now being released as an exclusive complete edition. In the entire history of Bruckner's reception, this is the only cycle to have been performed live in it's entirety by a single conductor - Rémy Ballot - exclusively in Sankt Florian. The acoustics of the St. Florian Abbey Basilica are problematic due to their reverberation time of up to ten seconds, and are only suitable for a few works, as there is a danger of Inchharmonic mushInch if the tempo is too fast and the harmonic changes too rapid as a result. Far from this trap, on the contrary, music is made in alliance with the acoustics in the present recordings. The architectural and acoustic conditions of the basilica require a consciously specific articulation and dynamic shaping. The Altomonte Orchestra, made up of local musicians reinforced by members of the most important Austrian orchestras, is traditionally deeply familiar with these, as well as is the Upper Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra, which has been performing Symphonies VI and VIII for this edition Album Tracks 1. Symphony in D minor, WAB 100, The Nullified~I. Allegro 2. Symphony in D minor, WAB 100, The Nullified~II. Andante 3. Symphony in D minor, WAB 100, The Nullified~III. Scherzo. P
