  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: ILCE6000L/W
    • Product Name: Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Camera with 16-50mm Lens
    • Color: White
    • Product Set: w/ 16-50mm Lens
    • Camera Model Family: Sony a6000
    • Digital Camera Type: Mirrorless Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 6000 x 4000 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG, RAW, AVCHD (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: Still images: 1/4000 - 30 sec., Bulb; Movies: 1/4000 - 1/4 sec. (in 1/3 steps), up to 1/60 sec. in AUTO mode, up to 1/30 sec. in Auto slow shutter mode (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: 32 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: 3.5 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)
    • Maximum ISO: 25600 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. In low-light environments, using a higher ISO setting helps to capture a sharp, bright image.)
    • Maximum Expandable ISO: 25600 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. Expandable ISO settings use software to simulate brighter images than the device's native ISO range is capable of capturing.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 10 seconds

Overall great compact camera with great resolution

The camera is great, image quality is great. Good quality images in low light situations without using a flash. Nice compact size. The thing that is bad with this camera is its WiFi. You can read other articles about it online, to be brief, it is nearly impossible to set it up with a Windows PC. All the online recommendation did not work. Tried it on 2 different PC's. You can only access your images if the cable is connected. The SONY website was of no help in debugging the issue. Another minor issue is the Battery life is short. One day I found the battery dead after about 125 shots. The panoramic images come out great when the feature works. I often get a warning from the camera that I moved the camera too fast, even if I move it extremely slow. All the issues I mentioned I consider minor. The image quality is really great and it is a fun camera to use. I found the menu and settings easy to get use to. I did a few night shots and was actually surprised at how well the images came out. Attached is a photo taken at night with no flash in a pumpkin patch. The only lighting was from street lights in the distance.

Great starting camera for pictures and videos

I purchased this camera to be able to take great quality pictures as well as recording video off of a tripod. I looked at DSLR cameras, and did not see any benefit in buying one. This one was lighter, more compact, and in my opinion, much better looking. It has a black (aluminum?) body which makes it look great. But not only does it look great, it performs great. This camera has is 24.3 megapixels, and can record video in 1080p at 60 frames for 20 minutes at a time. For the price (I got it on sale for $550) you can not beat the quality. This is the first dedicated camera I have purchased, and I am absolutely pleased with it. It is simple to set up and use, and ready to go. It has two auto modes, Superior Auto and Intelligent Auto for picture taking. Both of these modes basically sense the lighting and scenery and set the camera up to take the best picture in that setting. It also has a scene selection mode in which you can select what you are taking pictures of, and it presets the mode to what it thinks will create the best possible picture. You can also manually adjust everything you want to customize your shots. The video quality is great as long as there is ample light, I would recommend that you purchase an external microphone if you are going to be recording video. The preview screen on the back looks great. You can adjust the viewing angle (up or down), but it does not flip over the side or top to be able to view it from the front of the camera. It has a view finder as well, but I do not really use it, but it does work and looks good. Overall this camera seems to be good build quality and I have not found any defects with it. I can also easily transfer pictures I take from the camera, to my phone via Wi-Fi that the camera creates. This makes it easy for me to quickly share great pictures with family and friends. Overall I think that this camera is perfect for the price range and what it was made for. No it does not have a full frame sensor, but it also does not have a full frame sensor price tag. I would 100% buy it again. In the picture I did place the camera in a cage for more versatility while filming, it is not included with the product.

    Wonderful, lightweight, powerful Camera

This camera is amazing. Not only is it small and portable but the pictures are beautiful. I send my photos right to my phone with the touch of a button and by opening a free app on my phone, they're there. I've talked multiple people with different photography skill levels into purchasing this camera. The Auto feature is flawless, the interchangeable lenses are addicting, the photo resolutions are crystal clear, it's ISO is great for low light shooting, etc. The only "negative" I have on it is I really enjoyed the screen flipping completely around, like on the Sony a5100. BUT it has the viewfinder, which the a5100 does not, and that is really nice to have in bright situations. Overall I would recommend this camera (or the a5100) to any one. I've sold 6 of my friends on them and they are just as happy. Add that warranty and take this on weekend hikes, throw it into a backpack, a purse, or even throw it around your neck and tourist around for a bit, without worrying about accidents. You will love this camera!
