Sony, oh Sony, you rule my ears!

I purchased this subwoofer with out a doubt that it would perform. Since the Sony Walkman, 1998 component receiver, Mege Bass days as a kid I fell completely in love with Sony. They know they type of bass I like to hear. Not too punchy but also very much present. That has not changed today over 20 years later. Here I am thinking I can just use 5 speakers without a sub on my Yamaha receiver. The Sony floor standing speakers definitely performs well without a sub but God oh mighty is it like heaven with this Sony sub! With a room correction mic all my speakers put out the bass they need to and it sends the most beautiful signal to this Sony sub. With bass enhancement on and cross over set to 40 HZ on my Yamaha receiver emphasizes the deep lows at ALL volumes and this Sub takes full advantage of that. It seems to know the expected output of this sub so that clipping is not an issue. I can imagine running an old school amp with speaker line in may not be as good. Since you only have the crossover on the subwoofer and whatever frequency the receiver puts out by default on speaker level. Not a deal breaker because I never intend on using this sub that way. You have more control over the sound on a separate subwoofer line out. Biggest complaint... It does shut off quite fast (3 minutes maybe) when watching movies with at night with little to no bass. So when bass does come you will miss about 1.5 seconds of the bass before the sub turns back on. You do have the option to turn that off on the sub but I keep it on. Saves on electricity and my sound is very balanced so It does not bother me as much. I can make corrections so that it stays on but I like deep lows to get out of control so I keep the crossover on the sub to the lowest while the gain is at the highest. This thing has me wondering why I ever went to the movie theater to begin with. Seriously the best thing I could of bought working from home. I didn't catch it when it was 99.99 but at 140.00 I still don't feel robbed! If you got the money, BUY THIS THING! BTW Sony, if you had the 7.2 receiver I originally wanted in stores I wouldn't have this Yamaha receiver! lol

Hooked this up to my Sony STR-DH190 stereo receiver along with a pair of Polk T50 speakers. Connected using the speaker level inputs (my receiver doesn’t have a dedicated sub output). What a difference. Prior to this sub, some of my older vinyl records just sounded flat on the Polk T50’s. This bad boy has brought new life to those records. Depending on how you adjust the sub (knobs on the back), turn it up and you will feel the bass. Booming bass, deep bass, tight bass, room shaking bass - this sub does it all.

Tremendous value for an awesome subwoofer !!!

My original single subwoofer was making noises and failing so I went to Best Buy to see what they had. Didn't need or want the $800-$1000 subs for the medium HT room I was redesigning so I bought 1 of these - man, what an immediate clean transparent bass sound. Exactly what you want a sub to do. So awesome I went back and bought a 2nd one and used an RCA splitter out of my single sub out from my AV receiver and have a sweet 7.2 HT setup. Fantastic sound and dialed in the 2 subs to balance bass from the front and rear, even my wife noticed how much better the sound is watching TV and movies or music. Great value for a sub if your looking to upgrade your system.

Why spend more? Great Subwoofer

This thing is great! I was about to spend triple on a klipsch but so glad i didnt. Great, clear, room-filling sound from this. And if i want to make it obnoxiously loud i can add a second one of these and still be cheaper than a single klipsch. What a value! Paired with STR-DH790 receiver (love it, great value) and Klipsch HT-50 center and satellite speakers (love em). I plan to add Sony towers.

Works great, it has plenty of adjustment so you can tune it to just the right amount of bass for you. When I play video games and watch movies, I hear things I never knew existed - really adds a new layer to gaming and tv. My wife likes to put music on the tv while working around the house and has been telling me for a while that she "needs more bass". She is completely satisfied - she turns it up and can hear/feel it all throughout the house! My dog seems to like it too. She will lay in front of the bass and you can watch her hears flop around in the wind from every bass punch. All around great product, very happy with the purchase.

Great sound for the price.

Great for movies and music, although I don't think it has quite the range as advertised, as some bass riffs fade in an out depending on the note being played. It's hard to describe, but some bass notes fall between the highest output of the woofer and the lowest output of the Sony tower speakers I paired with this product, resulting in the bass note simply disappearing. I will attach an image to help explain (as long as you know who the Red Hot Chili Peppers are). Other than that, it can get loud enough to shake my drywall.

This subwoffer is literally one third the size of my old one. And yet it delivers AWESOME bass without any of the vibration that my older one would output at higher volumes. Highly recommend! You will have to look hard to spot it in my pic. It's on the far right.

Two subs are better than one

I received one of these subs for Christmas. I enjoy it so much that I decided to but a second one! It replaced an older Infinity BU2 sub. It sounds amazing with all of my other SONY Core series speakers. I have 2 subs, 2 towers, center channel, 2 bookshelf ( for rear channels), and now 2 elevation speakers. Sounds amazing!

Good bang for your buck

Provides a good amount of bass. I have 2 in my setup. My previous Mirage sub had deep bass even at low volumes. Not so much with this one, even with the gain turned all the way up. Not such a big deal but something I noticed. But once you crank the volume up on this Sony, the bass really comes out clean. Plus I got these at $135 a piece. Highly recommend getting two subs for $270 then one for $400-$500 if you’re receiver supports it. I will say these are pretty bulky compared to others.

Added a Second Subwoofer

I had purchased a 5.2 surround sound system. I only purchased 1 subwoofer when I installed the system. I felt like it could be improved with the addition of a second subwoofer. The addition of the second subwoofer seems to give the system a fuller richer sound. I am very satisfied with this addition.

Nice full sound for the price!

When the Boston acoustics sub that I was using stopped working I went to Best Buy to find somthing affordable to replace it. This was a great deal for the cost. I was supprised how much it added to my surround movie experience. Close to equal to my previous sub at less than 1/5 of the cost.

Replacement Subwoofer. Small but effective.

This was a replacement for my 25 year old SA-WM40 subwoofer that finally stopped working. I liked my old Sony sub so I chose Sony again. This one is a little smaller in box size but it actually puts out a decent amount of bass. For the price I am satisfied with it. It does have cheap knobs compared to my old one but you get what you pay for.

Sony 10” complements most music and tv sound!

It does what it’s supposed to. Deep; powerful, clear. I can back it down if necessary, for higher bass-tuned music, with the volume knob on the back. That way, it doesn’t overpower the other loudspeakers. The low-pass filter does not hurt. In my opinion and application (bonus room turntable music system, with keyboard amplification) it is more than sufficient. At this price point, I would recommend this product.
