About this product
Vinyl LP pressing. Includes digital download. First released in 2001, this album is fully remastered, remade and presented once more in it's entirety and features A Certain Ratio, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, The Human League, The Pop Group, Gang of Four, The Slits, 23 Skidoo and This Heat. // As Muzik magazine noted on it's initial , 'In The Beginning' is a choice selection from the fertile post-punk period when bands thought nothing of combining politics and philosophy with imported dance rhythms and edgy industrial angst. The bands featured come (mostly) from the then bleak post-industrial North of England - Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds as well as Bristol and London, and yet all show a fascination with black American rhythms and an experimentation in sound that was completely unique at the time. The title of the album comes from The Slits track of the same name. This double vinyl edition with download code comes complete with two bespoke inner bags containing extensive sleevenotes and original photography. Album Tracks 1. Shack Up 2. Coup 3. To Hell with Poverty 4. Being Boiled 5. In the Beginning There Was Rhythm [Early Version] 6. 24 Track Loop 1. 20 Jazz Funk Greats 2. She Is Beyond Good and Evil 3. Sluggin' Fer Jesus 4. Vegas El Bandito 5. Knife Slits Water

Originally hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Natural Child are a quartet whose good and greasy style is informed by Southern rock, vintage country-rock, laid-back Laurel Canyon sounds, '70s-style boogie, a dash of hard rock, and most likely a careful balance of liquor and bong hits. Be M'Guest, their eighth studio album, has been hailed as a return to form for the group, packing eleven stylistically unique hits into the grooves of this forty-five minute LP. Produced by Cooper Crain of Bitchin Bajas and featuring Oakley Munson of The Black Lips, this is unquestionably the greatest rock and roll record one is going to hear this year. Album Tracks 1. 1. Soul Jamaica - Soul Jazz Records' new Soul Jamaica brings together a wicked selection of reggae funk and soul tracks from the legendary Studio One stable, featuring a stellar line-up of artists including Jackie Mittoo, The Heptones, The Gladiators, Sim Smith, Peter Tosh and The Wailers, Cedric 'I'm' Brooks and many more. // For a short period of time at the end of the 1960s and early 1970s, nestled between the end of rocksteady and the arrival of roots reggae, Studio One released a small stream of superb soul and funk reggae tunes - covering everyone from Sly and The Family Stone, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Nina Simone, Gene Chandler, Tyrone Davis and more. // Most of the tracks featured on Soul Jamaica were only ever released on Studio One's UK-subsidiary tag Bamboo in small-run pressings and are now consequently extremely hard to find. // The cover photograph features images of Air Jamaica, the new airline created by the Jamaican government at the end of the 1960s, showing how in the years following independence the country assumed it's place on the world stage, with reggae music playing a key role in creating the island's new cultural identity.
