I enjoy the fun gameplay, and the art style by akiman (street fighter) is dope too. The music is always on point. The company who developed this game, tri-Ace, has been innovating for years, and they deserve our support. Creativity is the true currency

I love the Star Ocean franchise. I've played many of them. This one, though...I just struggle to get into it. They changed how chain combos work. They don't feel as satisfying in this game because of that change. I think they were trying to simplify it, but in doing so just made it bland. I honestly never felt it was complicated to begin with, in previous titles. I also struggled to connect with the characters in this game. Previous Star Ocean games made me feel invested in the characters' predicaments. I feel that to a lesser extent this time around. Maybe it's because the enemy seems less interesting? Or maybe it's because I've played so many Star Ocean games that the common thread/formula shared between them simply doesn't captivate me the way it did when I first explored the Star Ocean. Anyway, the game isn't bad by any means. It has many of the staple features and experiences you'd expect from Star Ocean. It just doesn't seem quite as...magical as some of the others. That said, I haven't finished this game yet. Maybe it picks up and gets more interesting. Maybe my criticism comes too early. I can't be sure. But I've played about 30 hours already, so...I'll just say I'm not holding my breath. Actual rating is a 3.5, but rounded up for...nostalgia (I guess, since half stars aren't possible). Still worth playing if you're a fan of the franchise, or get a nice sale price on it. I will say I wish I hadn't paid full price for it.

I'm an older gamer that's been playing JRPG's for the majority of my gaming time. I'm really enjoying this game so far. It's a mix of modern design and classic Star Ocean gameplay. Sure, some of my reaction maybe fueled by nostalgia, but it's a good game regardless. It does have some flaws and I think Tri-Ace should modernize their style to be more like Tales of Arise. I still recommend this game to JRPG fans.

Great game but needs to be played in next gen consoles i played the game in the OG xbox one and looks like im playing a xbox 360 game too blurry only in the cutscenes you can see the characters clearly

This is a good slow pace game. You can control the dynamics of it. Star Ovean has always been a good title.

A little janky, but still a content rich and fun jrpg! Star oceans have alway had a special place in my heart.

If you loved SO3 and SO4 then looked no further. It doesnt try to reinvent the wheel, just pure SO fun!
