Ensemble Recherche - Zwischen Den Sternen - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Mason's work is the result of an intensive exchange with the musicians of ENSEMBLE RECHERCHE. He leaves the Well-Tempered Sound to let floating states arise and disappear. At the tonal center is the piano, with an enraptured mood that appears like a flicker above the sounds of the ensemble. Mason works four-dimensionally with space and time. Sounds move along their paths like meteors, fade away and dive into infinity. He composes sounds, noises and spaces in the course of time. At the end of the piece, the cello is left all alone, lost in an ecstatic semi-improvisation, while the other instruments wistfully penetrate into the distance. Album Tracks 1. Zwischen den Sternen~I. Between the Stars, How Far... 2. Zwischen den Sternen~II. ...and yet, by how much still farther, what we learn from the here and now 3. Zwischen den Sternen~Interlude I 4. Zwischen den Sternen~III. O how incredibly distant 5. Zwischen den Sternen~Interlude II 6. Zwischen den Sternen~IV. Everything is far. 7. Zwischen den Sternen~V. ...and nowhere does the circle close 8. Zwischen den Sternen~VI. But is there not perhaps a place, where what would be the fishes' language is spoken without them?

Mathis Stier - Sentiment - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Born in 1994, bassoonist Mathis Stier not only won second prize at the 2019 ARD Competition, but was also awarded the coveted Audience Prize. Mathis Stier has a natural affinity with the music of the 18th century and the three works which he has chosen for his ALPHA debut demonstrate it's principal characteristics Baroque, Empfindsamkeit / Sturm und Drang and Viennese Classicism. The composers J.S. Bach, Johann Wilhelm Hertel and W.A. Mozart represent three generations father, son and grandson. The conventions of each previous generation are questioned, musical boundaries are broken down and new paths are taken, until the generational revolt finds it's way back to more conventional channels. This is how Mathis Stier describes the phenomenon InchMusically, the Mozart Concerto represents the classical bassoon and is probably the best-known work in the original literature. Hertel's concerto, on the other hand, is unusual and fairly unknown even among bassoonists. It deserves to be more widely known, however, because it is an exceedingly remarkable and idiosyncratic piece. Finally, the Bach Concerto, while a very well-known work, is extremely rarely performed in this version and thus represents an addition to the repertoire. The adaptation for the bassoon is obvious, since the (reconstructed) original was probably composed for the similar-sounding oboe d'amore. Moreover, setting pieces in a different key was common practice for Bach.Inch Album Tracks 1. Concerto for Oboe D'amore in a Major, BWV 1055R (Transcribed for Bassoon By Mathis Stier) 2. Concerto for Bassoon, Strings and Basso Continuo in a Minor 3. Bassoon Concerto in B-Flat Major, K. 191/186E
