A gripping gangster movie of the film noir style about a police lieutenant (Cornel Wilde) who comes under pressure from a gang, who has at it's head, a vicious thug (Richard Conte). The police lieutenant is helped by the gangster's wife, Susan, with whom he is obsessed (Jean Wallace). Diamond's objective as a detective is to locate a woman called InchAliciaInch from the crime boss's past, whom Diamond eventually finds. In the meantime, Brown kidnaps Susan and plans to fly away with her to safety. Diamond works with InchAliciaInch to figure out where Brown might have taken Susan. Brown is at a private airport where he plans to make his getaway. The plane never shows up, and Brown and Diamond have a shoot out after which Brown is arrested. The ending of this film is one of the greatest romantic scenes of all time - Diamond and Susan are shown silhouetted in the fog - happy and in love. (84 minutes - 1955 - Black & White - 4 3)
