I loved the way this movie broke down what happened with the housing market bubble. This movie did so using great actors to portray the cast of characters in the movie. I also loved how the the actors would sometimes turn to the camera as if to address you directly. Overall, I think this was a great movie!

Who expects a comedy about the housing bubble disaster? Who expects "real people" to butt into a fictional story? Who expects the fourth wall to be broken again and again? Hey, the critics liked it, so you may too.

Good movie, done really well. I like the director's work

After the Wall Street/Big banks meltdown of 2008 that precipitated a worldwide recession, this movie is must see viewing. Steve Karel stars, plus cameo spots by many big stars in the entertainment world. But that's not what makes it a great movie. It is the content that explains derivatives and some other complex Wall Street tricks that makes this an important film. And, with government oversight being cut short at every opportunity, it is possible that this, or something worse, could happen again. And with greed at the core of it all, sadly, it probably will happen again. The only caution--- being a realistic depiction of events at that time--- there is some profanity in the movie. But when viewed overall, the whole meltdown and its causes were profane--- so it fits!

Almost everyone was affected by the financial meltdown that started in 2008. So, EVERYONE that isn't one of the wrongdoers in this film should watch it. It explains how the meltdown was precipitated, which is rather complex. And we should all take those lessons and be very watchful and aware of the quickly approaching financial and political changes that are going to come about in January 2017. It can easily happen again. I should add, that this excellent movie, which sounds rather dry, executes its message with a good bit of humor. The misdeeds that caused the meltdown affected almost everyone, except possibly the homeless living on the street--- ignore the message in this film, and we may well join them in greater numbers.

I lived through the .com bust of '99 - 2000, the housing collapse of 2005, which ultimately led to the recession of 2008. I was an accounting major in college during the middle of the economic down fall and was faced with the after math of trying to find a job in my field in 2006 when I graduated. This movie along with a documentary called "The smartest guys in the room" go along way in explaining what happened. I've seen both sides as an accountant and as a sales man at a bank. This movie does a good job of trying to explain a very important topic everyone should know.

"The Big Short" is an Everyman's view of how the financial crisis came to be, and how a few that could step back and understand the big picture profited. From my early childhood, there was a general idea that real estate and houses were generally one of the safest, steadiest investments or purchases you could make. Leave it to our get rich quick banking and investment mentality of the last few decades to dispel that fallacy.

By watching this movie, we get a glimpse on the housing market crash. Everybody is a culprit. The banks, the real estate professionals, the consumers, and the regulatory agencies of the government are equally guilty of the crime. Hopefully, lessons are learned out of the U.S. Crisis. We all learned our lesson. Kudos to all the actors in this movie.

It may be a work of fiction but The Big Short offers general insight into how greed within the financial community lead them to totally disregard us while enriching themselves and, finally, causing the partial collapse of banks and well known financial institutions. This is a film for active viewing that requires concentration in order to follow the story.

Sad but great story about the financial collapse back in 2007-2008. In depth explanations as to who and why...minus the actual political figures that bare some responsibility. Awesome cast, great acting, infuriating yet a great story that keeps you glued to it even though we know the outcome.

Good movie that is based on the recent real-life bank fraud in which many lost so much. You have to pay attention to keep up (learned details I hadn't known before) but it is well-acted (great cast) and well-written. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Will pass it around to my friends.

Who knew a movie about financial investing could be so fascinating and understandable. The producer and cast did an amazing job of bringing this story to life and making the world of finance so fascinating and easy to understand. Definitely a fun movie worth watching!!

I really love this movie! Great performances from a pretty amazing ensemble cast! It really chronicles the housing market collapse and highlights the stupidity of a lot of the people in that industry. Terrifying to think they haven't learned anything!

The great American Rip-off of the American public is told in a very entertaining manner. I would've liked a little more depth in the story lines but it was still interesting to watch.

Amazing cast and some truly unique performances. Did not like the filmmakers style so much, but ultimately appreciated the story. Fraud and corruption on such a scale ...wow

Entertaining and informative. Its only weakness is its failure to mention the role of the government in creating the crisis by pressuring lenders to lower credit standards.

This is a great movie if you really want to know what happened to the housing in 2008. A little hard to follow in places but at the end it all works out.

Interesting film about the collapse of the American economy in 2008. This film tried to make a confusing subject entertaining by having celebrities break the fourth wall to explain some economic function but it's still about a dark time in America's history and shouldn't be entertaining. Still, all actors did a great job and this was nominated for Best Picture. If you can't understand high finance or even have trouble just balancing a checkbook, then maybe this film is not for you.

I will need to watch this 2 or 3 times to truly understand what happened. It jumps between the characters a lot and I think you miss things the first time through

A great take on the latest financial meltdown, a lot of talking to the audience in spots explaining concepts in humorous ways like comparing collateralized mortgage obligations to fish stew using leftover fish.
