Much like the shows character Barnabas Collins, a guilt-ridden vampire released from his chained coffin after nearly 200 years, DARK SHADOWS retains an immortality that time steadfastly fails to erode.

In 1897, Judith Collins is released from the sanitarium and returns to Collinwood, where Gregory Trask, hoping to seize control of the Collins family wealth, plans her murder. Evan Hanley conducts a ceremony to reunite Quentin Collins' mind with his body, which has been taken over by Count Petofi. Secretly cured of his vampirism, Barnabas Collins reappears, claiming to be a British relative. Mesmerized by Josette's portrait, Lady Kitty Hampshire begins to believe she is Barnabas' lost love. When Kitty disappears, Barnabas follows her back to the year 1796. He is chosen against his will to become the human leader of the Leviathans, an ancient race from another world. In 1969, the ghost of Jenny Collins appears to Chris Jennings and warns him that Quentin is the only one who can save him from the werewolf curse.

In the mysterious world of parallel time, Barnabas is once again a vampire. Writer William H. Loomis discovers Barnabas' secret and traps him inside a chained coffin. Young Daniel Collins becomes convinced that his deceased mother named Angelique is coming back. Quentin Collins is stunned when Alexis Stokes, Angelique's identical twin sister, arrives. Sabrina Stuart convinced everyone at Collinwood to participate in a séance to contact Angelique's spirit. She believes that someone at the séance murdered her. The ghost of Dameon Edwards starts hunting the mansion. Scientist Cyrus Longworth continues his laboratory experiments to separate the good and evil in man. Upon drinking a portion, he transforms into the sinister John Yaeger and terrorizes barmaid Buffie Harrington. Housekeeper Julia Hoffman learns a dark and deadly secret. Maggie Collins suspects that her husband Quentin may have been responsible for Angelique's demise.
