The Wave Pictures - Long Black Cars - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Five years after her critically acclaimed album forevher, Shura is back with her highly anticipated third studio album I Got Too Sad For My Friends. A pastoral blend of chamber pop, sixties folk and campfire Americana, it builds Shura's introspective songwriting out into a vast landscape more tranquil than the soulful bounce of forevher, and more rustic than the brooding synth-pop of her 2016 debut Nothing's Real. Though it's an album rooted in themes of depression and loneliness, I Got Too Sad For My Friends is far from downcast. Instead, it stays fully present in it's feelings and plunges it's fingers into the earth - even when it can be painful to do so. Produced by Luke Smith (Foals, Shygirl, Depeche Mode) and featuring collaborations with Cassandra Jenkins, Becca Mancari and Helado Negro, it retains Shura's usual crystalline sound and precision while introducing a different kind of warmth and earthiness. Vinyl LP pressing. Audiobooks threw absolutely everything at their 2018 debut album, Now! (in a minute), a hectic, head-spinning blast of freewheeling freak-pop genius. On it's follow-up, Astro Tough, they've somehow found a way to ramp things up even further, concentrating their chaotic energy and inherent weirdness into a record that's bigger, deeper and more powerful than even it's predecessor. Multi-instrumentalist and super-producer/mixer David Wrench - known for his work with Frank Ocean, the xx, Caribou, David Byrne, Manic Street Preachers and Goldfrapp - and writer, vocalist and visual artist Evangeline Ling, reach new peaks of creativity, more confident than ever before in their abilities to forge something focussed, singular and unique out of the explosive combination of their talents. On Astro Tough, audiobooks are completely sincere. They're also completely joyous, wild, angry, powerful, hilarious, vicious, vulnerable and intense, and most of all completely brilliant. Album Tracks 1. The Doll 2. Lalala It's the Good Life 3. The English Manipulator 4. He Called Me Bambi 5. Blue Tits 6. First Move 7. Driven By Beef 8. Trouble in Business Class 9. Black Lipstick 10.
