About this product

'But what are we going to do with all these pleasures?' A question sung tête-à-tête by the Princess and the Prince in Jacques Demy's film Peau d'âne (Donkey Skin), and a more bothersome question for harpsichordists drawn to the age of Louis XV. What to do with all the pleasures that the composers of the time distributed so extravagantly, how to live today in this 'kingdom of the pleasant'? The usual option is to stick to the most perfectionist of these masters (Couperin), the most ambitious (Rameau) or the most adventurous (Forqueray) in programs focusing on one of them at time. But that means setting aside a whole swathe of the repertory, which Céline Frisch here restores to the limelight, following an original method. From Couperin's Le Réveil-matin to Corrette's Les Étoiles, she retraces a day at the court of Louis XV, making full use of the sound palette offered by an exceptional harpsichord, a replica by Andrea Restelli of an instrument by Goujon. Gavle Symfoniorkester - Piano Concertos 24 & 17 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Mozart's piano concertos form a set that is not just exceptional but absolutely unique in the history of music from No. 9 to No. 27, all are definitive masterpieces. According to H.C. Robbins Landon, an eminent specialist in the composer's life and work, 'It is above all their immense stylistic diversity that places Mozart's piano concertos above and beyond those of his contemporaries'. What these scores also share is their position at a crossroads for strongly impacting influences that of the symphony, encouraging Mozart to make lavish use of the orchestra; the wind bands of the Imperial court, shaping his enhanced role for the woodwinds; and the influence of the opera, whose styles he worked into these concertos, often treating the dialogue between piano and orchestra as if they were stage characters. In this new recording, Eric Le Sage is joined by the Gävle Symfoniorkester to perform the 17th and 24th concertos for piano and orchestra by the Salzburg composer. Album Tracks 1. Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K. 491 2. Piano Concerto No. 17 in G Major, K. 453

Debussy / Goerner - L'isle Joyeuse & Images Book - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Well known for his interpretations of the works of Frederic Chopin and Serge Rachmaninov, appearing on concert platforms the world over, the great Argentinian pianist Nelson Goerner is joining the Zig-Zag Territoires tag. InchObviously, from the performer of these pieces - of all the pieces on this [album] - one will expect mastery and sensitivity. But even more is necessary gifts of a colourist; an imagination of the settings; a vision of the sound planes and space. And also, for these pieces that are heirs to and the summary of such a glorious tradition, it also calls for broad knowledge and culture of the piano repertoire. The performer of the Etudes stands at the arrival of an itinerary, that of the keyboard Inchen blanc et noirInch. He must know everything and play almost everything. Nelson Goerner is that performer.Inch (Dominique Jameux) Nelson Goerner is not only a world renowned soloist, he has performed with many of today's major orchestras including the London Philharmonic and the Philharmonia Orchestra. A keen chamber musician, he has also collaborated with artists such as Martha Argerich, Janine Jansen, and Gary Hoffman. Album Tracks 1. Estampes 2. Études Book II 3. Images Book I 4. L'isle Joyeuse

Le Concert de la Loge - Piano Concerto 23 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Julien Chauvin meets up with one of the great harpsichordists and fortepianists of our time, Andreas Staier, who is a leading interpreter of the Mozart concertos. He presents us with his vision of the Piano Concerto no.23 and it's famous Adagio, 'one of the most heart-rending slow movements ever written by Mozart. Performers often tend to take it too slowly, certainly thinking that this will accentuate the tragic side, but Julien Chauvin and I spontaneously agreed on a slightly faster tempo, which respects the basic pulse of this movement in Siciliana rhythm. When you start with the right tempo, it's amazing how the whole discourse comes together perfectly, in a very logical and simple manner', says Staier, who plays a magnificent instrument by Christoph Kern after a 1790 fortepiano by Anton Walter, the great maker of Mozart's time. Also on the program is the Symphony no.40, in which, says Julien Chauvin, 'Mozart explores types of writing that he pushes to their most extreme limits. This is the case in the finale, where we find a succession of dissonant disjunct intervals at the opening of the development which, on closer inspection, present us with the full chromatic scale (except for G natural, the symphony's tonic). And so the twelve-note series was born!' Album Tracks 1. Don Giovanni K. 527~Ouverture 2. Concerto pour Piano et Orchestre No. 23 En La Majeur K. 488~I. Allegro 3. Concerto pour Piano et Orchestre No. 23 En La Majeur K. 488~II. Adagio 4. Concerto pour Piano et Orchestre No. 23 En La Majeur K. 488~III. Allegro Assai 5.
