About this product
American-born soprano Barbara Bonney provides the sparkle in this ebullient account of Mozart's gem of a cantata, Exsultate jubilate (K. 165). Harnoncourt and his charges do a lovely job with the orchestral pages of the setting, originally written to accompany the singing of the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini. Equally well done is the youthful C Minor Missa solemnis (K. 139), which in many ways looks forward to the great C Minor Mass (K. 427) and to the operas of Mozart's mature years in Vienna. -Ted Libbey Album Tracks 1. Eugene Zádor was a remarkable colorist and orchestrator whose Hollywood film work was extensive. He described himself as a 'middle of the road extremist'. The Aria and Allegro is a beautifully crafted work brimming with rhythmic energy. Five Contrasts for Orchestra demonstrates his rich sound world at it's most vibrant; film noir jostling with a big-booted country dance. The lighter a Children's Symphony is one of his most popular pieces - communicative, witty, accessible. We also hear two small and captivating evocations of his native Hungary. Mariusz Smolij is a founding member of the Penderecki String Quartet, former artistic director of the Lutosawski Wrocaw Philharmonic and International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, Poland, and currently serves as Music Director of the Acadiana Symphony in Louisiana and Riverside Symphonia in New Jersey. Album Tracks 1. Aria 2. Allegro 3. Introduction Andante Moderato - Vivo 4. Autumn Pastorale 5. Fantasy Poco Vivo 6. Scherzo Rustico Allegretto Pesante 7. Fugue Allegretto - Allegro Moderato 8. Allegro Moderato (Con Spirito) 9. Fairy Tale 10. Scherzo Militaire 11. The Farm 12. Hungarian Caprice 13. Csardas Rhapsody
