The Withings - ScanWatch Light - Daily Health Hybrid Smartwatch - 37mm - Black/Silver is a different kind of smartwatch. It looks and feels like a classy, elegant analog watch but once you take a closer look, it clearly has additional features only found in today’s mainstream smartwatches. The battery was about half-full so all you have to do is download the app by scanning the QR code with your phone. Once the Whithings Health Mate App is installed, follow the instructions on the screen to pair it with your watch and provide some basic information about yourself, such as weight, age, etc. One of the first things it will also do is update the watch firmware which only takes a minute or two. There are no additional apps you can install, so you’ll have to rely on syncing and getting messages and notifications from your phone. Since there is no actual touch screen, you will not be able to reply and since there is no speaker built in, you will not be able to answer phone calls from your watch, though it will notify you and vibrate when you get a message or phone call. It’s a nice looking watch, very low profile, more of a “dress watch” with activity tracking smart features. And because it does not have a fancy color display and all the other bells and whistles of true smartwatches, the battery life is unbelievable. I’ve used it for a few days since activation and battery level is still in the 95% range. It is advertised to last up to 30-days depending on usage and I totally believe that. The chagrin cradle is proprietary, so make sure you don’t lose it cause there is no other way to charge it like my other favorite Samsung watch that can be charged wirelessly. Navigating the little display is very intuitive, just scroll up and down by turning the dial and push it in to select. It does not have GPS built-in, but it will leverage your phone’s GPS for tracking workouts. Overall it is a stylish, classic looking analog watch, with very useful fitness, wellness and notification features only found in smart watches.

I have to say I am impressed with this Withings ScanWatch light. It is beautiful, elegant and well crafted. This watch is not like the typical touch screen smart watch you see out there, and to be honest I liked the approach. This thing looks like a traditional analog mechanical watch but with a digital signature. If you don't mention it, people wouldn't know it is a smart watch. This specific ScanWatch Light version is extremely light. So light sometimes I forget that I am wearing it. On the top of the watch where the 12 position is, there's a circle. That's the grayscale OLED display. That little screen is part of the smart features of the watch. The screen acts as the information center for settings and all the health information such as the step counts and other things. This ScanWatch can track your heart rate, step counts, and sleep. For the females it tracks the menstrual cycle as well. It has a ridiculous 30 days rechargeable battery life as per manufacturer. It comes with Gorilla glass, and it is water resistant up to 50 meters. It also has a dynamic range accelerometer and multi-wavelength PPG to track the heart rate. Setting it up is easy, download the Withings app and pair it to your phone. With the app you can view all your health activity progress similar to other health apps. One of the differences of the app is that some of the premium features require a paid membership to have access. The most important ones, like steps, heart rate, and sleep are free to access. App is easy to view and has all the health info at glance. Something they should have done was to add the watch battery life info within the home screen instead of going into my devices to view it. After wearing the watch after a few days it has performed like a champ. It seems to be very accurate with the sleep tracking and steps. I really like how it detects the auto workouts. I don't get any notification or anything, it just does it. Once you go into the app you can view the workout it detected and how you did. I did find some cycling workout that I didn’t do. Maybe it detects that during my driving. The OLED screen is pretty neat despite it being small it is actually easy to read and If you access it in a dark room the brightness is not distracting. On the screen you can view messages and phone calls. The displayed text will scroll several times on the screen giving you enough time to read it. With the crown you can view and access the menu. It is responsive but it feels a little fragile. I really like how the hands will move out of the way if they are blocking the screen when you access the menu. Once you’re done the hands will go back to the current time, that's pretty cool. The charging station is what I found a little weird. You have to place the watch into the charging dock in a certain way. It does not work like others where you let it sit and that's it. I believe they did that because the charging pins connect to the crown and frame of the watch. The charging station connects via USB-C and it will fully charge the watch in a little bit over an hour depending how low the battery is. I do have to question the 30 days battery life because after 10 days, the battery life was about 25%. That 30 days is variable; it all depends on how you use the watch. I calculate that the 25% will give me another week or so. I do love that I don't have to charge it every night like my other smartwatches and even charging it after a week is still good for me. Overall this smartwatch is unique on its own and it has its crowd. It is beautiful and well crafted. It works just like other smart watches but it has the traditional and elegant look like the analog. It is pretty accurate on your health tracking info and it has one or if not the best battery life than any other smartwatch out there. I honestly like this watch so much that I’m considering getting the bigger version. In the box you get the watch, charging station and cable, and some manuals.

The best way to sum up this review is that this is a really nice-looking watch with some smart tech to it, rather than, say, an Apple Watch that is a smart tech item with some watch features. This piece of gear is for the discerning gal (the target audience) who would prefer to have a less obtrusive, less distracting piece of wearable tech on their wrist that tracks essential metrics like HR, steps, etc., without being the all-attention-owning device that smartwatches like Apple Watches tend to be. The setup was truly so easy and seamless. We already had the Withings app with our Withings wireless scale, so it was easy to get everything loaded up with this new device. All the steps were intuitive and it is refreshing that, unlike an Oura ring, there is no subscription required to track metrics like your sleep quality on the Withings app. It also came with over 40% battery, enabling one to use it for even a few weeks right out of the box! This watch is really spiffy looking. My wife loves how it looks and enjoys how it is kind of stealthy and low-key, but can still display texts or let her know who is calling on its small but easy-to-read display. The included fluoroelastomer wristband is comfortable and keeps the watch snug on her medium-sized female wrists without being overly tight. The battery life is outstanding, too! This is the kind of piece of smart tech that you can take on a couple of weeks’ vacation and not have to worry about bringing the watch charger at all! It is advertised to have up to 720 hours of battery life, which when converted, is a whole month of use! Ergo, it is also able to track metrics while you are asleep, unlike many Apple watch models, which are barely able to make it through a total of 14 hours of use before needing to be charged. This watch is something that, if released ten years ago, would have positively owned the market prior to the advent of the Apple Watch. At a time when basic Fitbits were considered high-tech, something like this would have been of tremendous value to the market. Today, though, many of us are spoiled with a vast array of tech products that are so undeniably good at almost replacing our smartphones when it comes to convenience factors like answering text messages, phone calls, and even interacting with our music and other smart features on big, bold colored displays. Thus, while this watch from Withings is attractive and basic in its smart functions, it is lacking in some of those departments that make even an older or refurbished smart watch from other large competitors the clear winner for many. I would almost be inclined to say that this watch might be a good selection for a young female athlete or on-the-go individual who wants some smart functionality but maybe hasn’t been deemed to be ready for a full-on smartwatch by their parents. If a basic and stylish watch is what you are looking for that has smart features to it, go for this model! Otherwise, skip it in lieu of similarly priced older or refurbished big-brand name watches that offer far more tech bundled into this wearable wrist technology package.

First the Best Buy Description says this is for Women, lookwise it's nearly identical to the ScanWatch 2, in both size, weigth and appearence. Both watches are truly unisex and any sex whould be happy wearing it. Now I wan to compare how this Withings ScanWatch Light compares to the Withings ScanWatch 2. I could not decide which ScanWatch to get (the Light or 2). I've been using their Body Comp scale for about 7 months. I'm really impressed with it (especially compared to my previous Smart scale (from F.....) that just would not stay paired. But I loved that their (F.....) watches had 6-7 days of battery life. That being said, I have the latest 'fruit' watch, and I have to charge it more than once a day, it's get about 20hrs on a charge. And I've never liked how it looked. When I first saw the Withings original ScanWatchs I wanted it. But it was missing the heart rate, and O2 monitoring, and its sleep functionality seemed lacking. These 2 new watches buy and large fit my requirements. Neither have GPS built in but both can pair with your smartphone to acquire GPS info, which helps reduce battery usage. They both have a small round OLED on on the watchs which use much less power than a full face's display. And call me old (school), but I really want my watch to look like jewelry rather than technology strapped to my arm. Upon unboxing the two the Light has a perfectly flat crystal, and the "2" has a slightly raised convex crystal (Sapphire crystal, stronger and more scratch resistant than the Light). The "2" is 38mm wide and the Light is 37mm wide (you can't tell the difference in size), with a flat surface (made of Gorilla glass). They ship with slightly different chargers, the "2" is expandable and could hold a wider watch, the Light has a fixed width, both can be used on either watch. Both watches are made of a shiny stainless steel, the "2" having a rounded case, the Light being more squared off. The "2" weighs 54g (1.9oz), the Light weighs 47g (1.7oz). For comparison my fruit watch weighs 69g (2.4oz) and has to be charged every 20h, and supports a 'special' magnetic wireless charger, the ScanWatch has a cradle it can be put into to charge (much like F......). The ScanWatches both come with an attractive, comfortable silicone band. One issue with both ScanWatches, that disappoints, is can you can't see the the time at night without touching the watch (if you put it on your bedside table and turn out the lights or if it's on your arm), well the "2" has some bioluminescence, if the watch face has had sufficient light hitting it, before you turn out the lights, the watch arms glow for a few hours. The Light lacks this feature, really can't explain why besides their arms are more narrow. If you push the crown the date and time does show up in the OLED display for about 12s. One clever feature that both watches share is, when you push the crown the arms of the watch spread to 10 & 2 so the OLED face is clear of the arms. Are the functions accurate.... I compared the BPM data from the two watches to my fruit watch. The 3 were typically within 2 BPM of each other. The step counters of the two were within 100, after 3000 steps, with the fruit watch in between the two. After exercise, the Light recovered more slowly than the "2" or the fruit. but after 3-5m all were together again. The SpO2 level of the "2" was +/-2 of the reading on the fruit, the averages were essentially identical. The ECG data was also nearly identical, but the graphic presentation (see last image) from the "2" was better to "read" than the fruit's presentation. The body temp data I found very interesting, you again have to use to visualize, but the granularity of the "2" is much better than the fruit, this info is not available from the Light. This was most interesting when exercising, you can easily see how your body temp rises, to a point and then plateaus. And then slowly drops after you stop (as does your HR, but it recovers more quickly). Withings provides you ECG data to a health group: Heartbeat Health (with your permission) were they to see an abnormality (afib) they would apparently contact you. Kind of a cool feature I don't plan to utilize. Both watches offer min/max heart rate notifications, that you can set the thresholds for. The fruit offers only high notifications. Both watches also monitor your respiration rates; Breaths/min it does this at random intervals, but during your sleep it can indicate good/poor/restless sleep. Now my previous f....t smart watch could not monitor my sleep (which is why I stopped using it, it worked fine for my wife). My fruit watch consistently measures my sleep time about 2hrs less than actual, and rarely captures REM sleep, but it does see deep sleep. The Withings watches gave me more credit for more Deep or REM sleep, but it lumps the two together, whereas the fruit watch identifies Deep and REM separately (not sure how accurately either is). The average Heart Rate is available from both and it is presented in the Withings app much better than in the fruits Health app, which shows the heart rate and an hourly range, where the Withings app shows continuous data. The Withings watches both support notifications tied to your phone. You get caller Id info (name and number) and you can select what other applications you want to get notifications from, you can select other apps like Calendar, Facebook, Gmail, and any other app that you might have installed on your phone. I've not found a way to decline incoming calls, or to force a message to be taken from the watch. Something I can do from my fruit watch. But other than that you can get a full range of notifications displayed on both watches. This is the feature I like/use the most on my smart watch. I rarely, if ever, pick up a call on my watch, I just want to know who's called or messaged, then I use the phone's bigger screen. Overall I'm very impressed with both watches. The feature I miss the most is the ability to see the time at night in a dark room without touching the watch (maybe add a shake feature that turns the OLED on for 10s). What surprised me the most was the comfort of both watches, the silicon bands have small ridges on the back, this prevents the watch from sliding around on the arm, staying where you put it is huge. With the stock band on the fruit watch I spend 1/3 of the day realigning it on my arm. I'm sure the lighter weight of the Withings watches helps. The Withings bands are easily detachable, so if you want different colors for different occasions it is easily done (in acouple of seconds). So it becomes a question of is the ECG, Body temp and SpO2 levels of a great value to you. I'm guessing if you're not an athlete, someone who's doctor has interest in monitoring this data (which can easily be shared with health professionals from within the app) the Light is fine. So it's a cost issue. I think the flat glass on the Light is more attractive/easier to read, but the scratch resistance of the Sapphire crystal on the "2" is a nice feature if you're concerned with scratches (I've not tested the scratch resistance of the two, and don't plan to). I love the appearance of both watches, and will happily trade my fruit watch for either. One other interesting note, when you install more than one watch the Withings app tells you that "you successfully installed an additional tracker. You can switch devices anytime you want, we take care of the rest". It's good to know it also includes Nokia watches, and Apple Watch data via the Health App and iPhone sensor data via the Health App. The watches are very well conceived, I can only imagine that their excellent app will continue to improve.

I'm giving this 1 star because I was sent a used watch and not a new watch. I did not order a used watch. I opened shipping box and knew right away the watch was used as the box the watch was in was opened and the watch was scratched. I have ordered many items from Best Buy and this is the first time this has happened. I don't know if it was shipped by Best Buy or if it came from a different company but it was very disappointing.
