The number of applications that still actually need a dial-up modem (or faxmodem) is shrinking fast, so they're getting harder and harder to find. But several of my clients still have line-of-business applications that require dial-up (e.g. electronic Medicare billing), and when they buy new computers the modem is always an afterthought. This modem works just fine, and installation couldn't be simpler: literally plug-and-play under Windows 7 or 8; it's recognized as a generic Conexant modem, and there's no need to fiddle with anything. My only complaint is that I remember when this would have cost $25 instead of $50... but that's just my age showing.

Installed easily, compatible with other modems and works with Hyperterminal. My only complaint is that there is no sound. Most modems simulate dial tones, but this modem does not provide any audio at all.

This will probably be the last of the fax modems that will ever be manufactured and sold. I like it because it's small and easy to use, once I get the software working (HylaFax on Linux). The software that comes with it for Windows and MacOS is old and useless, so I would suggest dragging out any old computer that may still be in a closet and loading Fedora or Ubuntu Linux and learning a new skill while you get your modem working.

The Zoom USB Modem is quite useful if you have a computer that does not include an internal modem, but you still need to access the internet via dial-up. After the initial installation (which is not complicated) you merely have to plug it into your USB port and plug a phone line into the modem to use it (of course you need a dial-up internet provider as well). It is small, so it can easily be taken with you, and it is just as fast as any other dial-up modem. It does not provide any form of speed boost, however, so don't expect broadband speeds. As with any dial-up connection graphics-heavy web pages can take several minutes to load, and watching video online is not practical.

This unit worked right out of the box under Windows 8. It can be purchased for less online, but I needed to replace a twenty-year old fax machine in a hurry and this filled the bill quite well.

Just plug it into any USB Port on a Windows Vista and above OS and it automatically installs the drivers. Their is nothing else to do, except select it for your connection in the software you are using to dial out with.

This modem works well but did not seemlessly integrate with windows 10, although it works I find myself resetting it alot

My new computer lacks an internal modem so the item permits me to use a dial-up Internet service easily from my remote vacation home.

I have an Epson Workforce 840 with built in fax. It has always been hit and miss when trying to fax documents, resulting in frustration and wasted time. Sometimes the Epson fax could not make a connection, while in other instances it would drop the fax transmission part way through the document. The Zoom USB fax modem installed easily and has faxed numerous documents without a flaw. I only wish I had purchased this modem sooner.

Worked good out of the box. The setup instructions were clear and concise.

Works like a charm. Took 5 minutes max to set it up and start using it with my fax program. Very happy with this purchase.

Replacing an old failed part. Glad to be able to find in store right away.

Use this where no high speed or wifi internet connection is available. My AT&T U-verse account includes use of AT&T wifi and dial-up connections at no extra charge, so I keep this with me when I travel. Use it only for text and avoid images and the slow dial-up speed is less irritating.

Bought this for a friend with an old laptop. He still uses dial-up. I was surprised, but it dose what it suppose to do and at a acceptable speed.

If you don't need much configuring and just need a basic USB modem then it's the one for you

Installed the provided software, rebooted the computer after attaching the modem and the fax was ready to use.

I'm using this modem in a small doctor's office to replace one of our fax machines as we try to move towards wholly electronic media. This modem was a great purchase in that regard; we receive electronic copies with no extra steps for scanning physical documents. No more worrying about toner levels or paper jams, just easily handled documents delivered to our desktops. Set up is a breeze, with clear step-by-step instructions for multiple software platforms. This is a great buy if you need to set up a basic fax server without a lot of tinkering on the insides of your computer. Highly recommended.
