Unlike Detroit and Philadelphia, known for a particular R&B sound, Chicago had several unique sounds. The most well known is the music heard coming from Curtom Records. This compilation gives the listener a good sampling of Curtom artists other than Curtis Mayfield. Only eight of the twenty songs were written by Curtis, but his meticulous influence can still be heard. Curtis Mayfield, a visionary like his counterparts in Detroit and Philadelphia, had a knack for recognizing talented performers and bringing them to the attention of music lovers. Although not as commercially successfully, Curtom left an unforgettable mark and made a significant contribution to the R&B music scene of the late 60's and early 70's.
