What Is Zip and How to Use It for Payment at Best Buy

General information

What is Zip?

Zip is a payment method that allows you to split nearly any purchase* (including taxes, shipping charges and finance charges) into easy payments, allowing you to buy the products you need now, and pay over time.

How does Zip work if I am shopping on BestBuy.com?

When you are ready to check out, select Zip under “Other Payment Options” and follow the prompts to either sign in to an existing Zip account, or share a few details to get started. If approved, a payment breakdown will be presented for your installment plan, and you will be asked to agree to Zip’s Terms and Conditions before placing your order. What information does Zip ask for?

Zip requires your legal name, address, date of birth, a U.S. mobile number, and a U.S. debit or credit card to sign up. Rather than having a traditional username and password, Zip requires a mobile phone number and text message verification to log in.

Who can use Zip?

To have an account, you must:

  • Live in the U.S. and have a valid U.S. mailing address. Zip does not accept mailing (or billing) addresses that are APO, FPO, AE PO, or P.O. Box.
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a valid and verifiable U.S. mobile number
  • Use a U.S. credit or debit card to make a purchase
  • Use the Zip app (for in-store purchases)

Pay in eight (8) allows you to split the total cost of your Zip Purchase into eight (8) installments payable bi-weekly. Plans have different numbers of installments, fees, and limits on how much can be spent. Fees can vary from $8–$60 based on payment plan and loan amount, and the origination fee is charged at commencement as a prepaid finance charge. The applicable Origination Fee will be set forth in the Disclosure when Zip makes the Loan.

Refunds

What happens when I need to return an item?

Once the merchant processes your refund and notifies Zip, Zip will update your payment plan accordingly. Refunds can take up to 13 days to process but may be completed sooner. The exact timing depends on how quickly the merchant submits the refund and your financial institution’s processing times. Origination fees and charges are non-refundable.

What if I have a partial return?

The refund will first be applied to any remaining unpaid installments. If the refund exceeds the balance of unpaid installments, the remaining amount will be returned to your original payment method. Origination fees and charges are non-refundable.

Do you have more questions about how to return items from purchases made with Zip?

For more information on returns of purchases made at Best Buy, refer to Best Buy’s return and exchange policies. Zip will automatically be notified of your return. For more information visit Zip Refunds.* For additional questions visit Zip's Help Center.*
