No, you don't need it installed. You use the OWA version of the Windows Office. You can download the free google equivalents, which work exactly the same, for me some of the Google apps are better and you can export to the MS formats.

Please try again later.this uses Chrome OS so the preinstalled applications as Google Docs (think word) Sheets ( think Excel) Slides ( think power point) Gmail ( Outlook) , If you do still want to use MS Office applications you can use 365 or download the Android App for each MS Office application in the Google Play Store that comes preinstalled.
