“I currently have a Samsung with a start-up screen brightness that is blindingly bright and cannot be changed. Does this Acer have a low start-up brightness and/or it can be adjusted so that each time starts up the brightness is low?”

It can be adjusted to what you want it to start up at on the top row of keyboard. It's a really nice Chromebook and I tried out 2 other ones before I finally kept this one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Acer screen brightness at start-up is no brighter than the brightness after start-up. Select dark mode in display settings and set the display brightness to a comfortable level using the slider on the quick access menu and the start-up screen should be the same brightness.
