Yes, it can hold an Alienware 17 R3 laptop.

YES! Not only that but at the bottom it can hold the power supply, in another pocket it can carry meds, in another it can carry the mouse, a mouse pad, another iPad, drinks, snacks! Its a FULL TYPE BACKPACK! I was surprised to what it can carry, like everything you want to setup somewhere else (except power, not a thought, yet)! It, appears to have, a emp protection or brace to prevent damage in case of fall (drop)! In that pack I carry everything necessary plus ANYTHING else I want, no need to have any other pack! Only limitation is how much YOU can carry! Personally, I LOVE IT! RECOMMENDATED, YES!
