“Does the lid unlock when opened, or must I stop the entire cycle to balance the load? I will never own another washer that I cannot open the lid if necessary.”

This washer does have a lid lock, but you can pause it to open the lid. Also it has a load sensing setting that allows it to adjust on its own. Does a good job washing for a low cost machine. It is a bit noisy though.
