Sure, it has a nice speaker and is wifi enabled. He could speak commands into it and ask it questions and it will answer via your wifi. It does need wifi to work. It can play music from your amazon prime account or online. Has many uses. It does not have a screen which so many young kids want these days though. If he is interested, he can download the Amazon Echo "skills" kit and write his own "Echo app"

I think it would be great for an 11 year old. He could use it as an alarm, radio to play music, get the weather instead of asking you, ask her to tell him jokes. Super easy to use, would definitely recommend for kids and adults

I think so. Provided it's in an open area to have soon supervision. We have one in our family room and even our 4 yr old asks Alexa questions.
