• You don't have to pay to use it. If you are a Prime member you get access to things to which you are not otherwise entitled (more music, for example) but I am not a Prime member and am happy with what I get.

• You just need a basic Amazon account which has no charge for that account. You do you get extra services and skills if you have the prime account which makes your dad even more fun and informative

• As far as I know you don't need Amazon account to use the the DOT. All you do is go to amazon Web site to read about how to use it.

• You do not have to pay to use alexa all you have to do is purchase the dot and have an Amazon account to use it.
