• No. You just need a wireless Internet source. Of course some commands are only capable with subscriptions. You can't have Alexa play a library you are not subscribed to, such as, Prime Music, or Spotify, but Alexa will give thousands of weather, sports, facts, shopping, and entertainment responses with no subscription required. New features, (skills) are added on a regular basis, (whisper mode, for example). She tells corny jokes, and sings holiday songs plays games, rolls multi-sided dice and more at no additional charge.

• Not unless you want it, it doesn't cost to have it, but costs to save the videos... the pro plan is $100/ year... it's worth it
