• If all you want to do is read books, then it doesn't matter, but for $49, you get a device capable of much more than just reading books.

• Regular Kindle ereader which costs $79.99. That is for to only read books on it.

• I purchased the new Fire tablet and am using it for readign, watching videos and playing games. Awesome little tablet.
