It works, but Excel is slow on ARM processors. Excel shines on a ATOM CPU. IPads & most Android systems are slow on computational apps. You need a Windows 10 device for office work & an Android or iPad for play!

It is pretty good and yes it does a lot more then just reading.

Do not believe there is a Microsoft Office android app. There are other apps that can open and edit excel sheets but most don't get very technical. And no Android tablet will, if you need to lots of excel stuff bets bet will be a Microsoft Surface tablet.

You CANNOT use Excel on the Kindle Fire. You need either an IPad for that or your regular computer for that. Sorry.
