No it's not. Amazon has its own version of the app store which is unfortunate. You will find most common apps in there but typically they could be not the latest versions and also not updated as often as they are in the Google Play store.

I declined to do this as I'm fed up with the amount of background tasks they seem to run which slow down my other android devices. Sticking with the Amazon approved stuff should keep it relatively zippy.
