Hi CuriousGeoge! WhisperSync is the name of the service that Kindles (the devices as well as the apps) use to sync your progress across devices. You'll still need a WiFi connection for the Kindle, or any sort of internet connection on a device like your phone. You can force the Kindle to sync by swiping down from the top of the screen and selecting the 'Sync' option. I hope that helps, have a great rest of your day!
