Yes, there is a ‘built in’ keyboard, same as the other iPads and similar to smart phones where you can use a keyboard to type messages etc but also can hide it when you are watching a video or something where the keyboard is not needed

You can purchase an external magnetic keyboard that works great with it for about $150-180 depending on the model, and it does make it easier to use especially at home when NOT on the go, but its gonna cost ya.
