If meaning to ask more fully, “What… is the USB type C… connector used for?” (or just USB-C connector), it seems to me that it is a connector that, when connected to a USB-C household plugin charger, many of these types of chargers have a higher wattage rating (than the usual 10-15 watt chargers) and allows for faster charging due to the higher wattage rating of such USB-C chargers. Before simply buying such a charger (which can range from 20w to at least 80w (as I have read) and charge faster with each higher rating), research whether your phone or device is safe to charge at these higher wattages. A 30w charger is probably safe to use for many phones, but, it’s your device you are toying with; especially when going with even higher rated chargers.

I use this for my IPHONE 8 Plus (lightning) to plug into my laptop and USB hub - that has power to it - (USB C) I am able to charge and transfer videos and pictures at the same time. Other cables caused me many challenges yet this did it for me.
