Mine was unlocked..and I bought at a Best Buy Mobile store, and Best Buy says it's the same model as mine u are looking to purchase through Best Buy. Idk if purchasing online makes a difference but I would assume it wouldn't. I used mine with Mobile pcs and then switched to Verizon service, no problems what so ever. Idk for sure if ANY sim would work though. Not sure which carrier u are trying to go with.

That means you can use the embedded SIM to choose a data provider and data plan or you can visit a data provider and they will provide you with a SIM card when you sign up for a data plan and you can insert the card into the device.
