Literally nothing! The lightening connectors are just more of an inconvencience b/c you can't charge and listen to music. They're meant for the new iphones which removed the 3.5mm jack.

The newer iPhones have the 3.5 mm headphone jack removed from them so this style is the “outdated” version. The Lightning connector plugs straight into where the phone charger goes. So most likely, the price difference is the push to go with the Lightning connector rather than buying the older, headphone jack version. Hope that helps!
