• Yes you can use it with other brands of monitors. Jut get a GOOD one with high resolution. You will really enjoy it then.

• There is no display restriction on the mac mini. I have mine hooked to a Roku branded Insignia tv. You can connect it to up to three displays. One hdmi port and two more would be either wireless airplay or through thunderbolt dongles.

• I have never used an Apple monitor, keyboard or mouses, for all my minis. Just plug them in.
