• With this laptop, yes, an adapter is necessary to connect to an external monitor. Instead of an HDMI port, it has a Thunderbolt 2 Port. I did not realize this until after my daughter opened hers for Christmas. We saw where the HDMI port was listed - however, that is not the case.
